Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
I seriously want to see Ghost Rider 2, I space out my Nic Cage though, can only handle so much CAGEINESS at once.
I actually adore Nic Cage, even at his worst (Fuck you all, Drive Angry is an amzing film), something about the guy just makes me smile. I mean I'm not saying he's the greatest actor ever (Henry Motherfucking Fonda is) but damn I love him.
Also I rewatched Network last night on a whim, it's a 1976 satirical drama about a newsreader who after finding out he's gonna be fired says he'll kill himself on air but as such becomes a ratings success and shit it's amazing, every fucking cast member from Peter Finch to Faye Dunaway to William Holden (Might be the best performance ever actually) to Robert Duvall to Ned Beatty just blows me away.
It's a top 3 movie of all time for me, Sidney Lumet (The director) is a fucking genius, between this, 12 Angry Men, Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon (Let's just pretend The Wiz never happened) I get so annoyed the man is never really discussed as a great director.
Ghost Rider 2 had its moments, but had a relatively uninteresting plot and was painfully boring at times, which is surprising considering the context of the character.
Finished watching Goodfellas. Am I the only one surprised by how under-rated this movie is/was? I know it is well known, but I found much better than the Godfather. Joe Pesci and De Nero were excellent in it.
This movie is/was not underrated at all. It was nominated movie of the year, Pesci got an oscar, everyone loved it. We even watched in my Soc. class for the gangster image.

I remember you talking it up ages back and me watching it. Aye it is utterly superb and needs to be watched by everyone like yesterday. Really intriguing story that dominates the movie, entire cast adds to the overall film in some form and there's a bunch of awesome scenes where two actors share astounding chemistry: Holden and his wife may be the best example of that in Network.
Am I the only one that thinks The Other Guys is a hidden gem? I watched it again last night and it's fucking hilarious. I remember not wanting to watch it going in the first time and I ended up loving it. The Tuna/Lion thing almost had me on the floor when I saw it for the first time. Very underrated comedy, imo.
Darkman. Good, fun stuff. Gotta love 90's Raimi camp. Neeson was boss. Shame the sequel is trash from what I've read. I can definitely see a remake and/or proper sequel happening in a few years.

Samuel L and Rock's characters were pretty funny, especially their demise.
That Aim for the bushes scene still cracks me up when I think of it.

How can you say underrated and well-known in the same post? Not disagreeing with the movie being fantastic; it is. Its one f the best films of the 90s.

Not to mention, it was as revolutionary in terms of filmmaking techniques as Citizen Kane was.

I only liked it when I first saw it, but subsequent viewings have me liking it even more.

One of my favorites growing up.

When Cage is on form, he can be fucking incredible. Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing Out The Dead, Bad Lieutenant and Raising Arizona are all amazing performances. And apparently Adaptation and Wild At Heart are up there with those as well. Saying that though, when he's bad, he's insanely bad, but to the point that it's hilarious.
And YES @ Lumet. All those films are just class. Don't think I liked Network as much as you, but it's still brilliant, and 12 Angry Men is one of the greatest ever. Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico need to be seen by more people. Great director, even if you just take in to account those four movies.
