Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I thought the Pusher trilogy was good, maybe the best thing he's ever done. I enjoyed Bronson alot, but most of my enjoyment was because of Hardy's charismatic performance. The movie lost my interest after the first hour though, which seems to be a common thread when it comes to Refn.

I'll definitely get around to watching the Pusher trilogy.

Yeah, Hardy was clearly the best thing about Bronson. That was probably the performance of the year. He was pretty sensational.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Watched V/H/S earlier. By far the worst example of the "found footage" genre I've seen. Why anybody would be filming themselves rob a house or going to a Halloween party is anybody's guess. And they get money from 'reality porn' which is apparently pulling up random women's shirts to flash their chest.

Think the new sequel was thrown together in a short period of time and it would surprise me if this one took longer than a few weeks to make. Had little regard for plot or identity and just went all out to include every single sub-genre of horror there is to dire results. Not even TITS could save this.

I remember seeing a poster for that late last year and thinking it looked intriguing. But then when I found out it was that found footage shtick I stayed away from it. Not a fan of that genre, apart from Blair Witch since that was original at the time.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I fucking love REC and Cloverfield, but this was just a bunch of short stories that never felt satisfying or meaningful. It might have worked in the way of a TV show like Goosebumps with an episode dedicated to each story but together in a film it was a disaster.

Haven't seen Chronicle yet but mean to.

EDIT: I didn't even know Japan had remade Paranormal Activity

Ah, that's a very good film. Yeah I guess that's a 'found footage' one but it's pulled off so well I'll make an exception to my rule lol. Anyway, Chronicle is very good and really surprised me. I thought it looked ok but didn't know much about it, then when I watched it my expectations were blown out of the water. It's one of those films where you think you know what to expect and what the basic plot will be, but it twists those perceptions on their head and goes off in a different direction. Totally worth watching.

Just watched Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire, for an 80's vampire/cowboy/snooker/musical it wasn't actually half bad

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Just watched Badlands (1973).

Can't believe that was Malicks first feature film, It's fucking class! The soudtrack and cinematography are sublime and make the film a masterpiece. Badlands is like a contemporary western where both Sheen and Spacek are very impressive in their roles. It's a film that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you are are always interested in seeing what happens next. Great film!
