Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
Gladitor and American Gangster were his two best films.
"Stand...while you still can. You are a weak and disgusting people. If I am alone, so be it. I no longer desire to be a part of your bickering commune. This desert will bury your monuments. History shall sweep you under - a forgotten people. And know this - that is when I will return. For I shall be there at the end."
Just watched Memento for the first time, and loved it. Took me a while to get the hang of it (I didn't know anything about it), but it was awesome. Easily Nolan's best film (come at me Batman fans).
Agreed. Nolan's best film.
As for the continuing Ridley Scott discussion - I like American Gangster, but only after the second time I watched it. It did feel slow the first time, but something clicked when I watched it again. Not sure what it was.
Gladiator is definitely overrated but still a solid film. Surprised no ones talked about Thelma & Louise - I think that's underrated.
That film killed all the momentum he had during the 70s. Not saying it sucked, but from what I read, it was a terrible flop and he never fully recovered.
yeah I vaguely remember reading about it in that (great)Easy Riders/Raging Bulls book, was expecting a total mess and got a cool taut thriller, I think it gets chalked up as yet another victim of being released in the same month as the first Star Wars.
