My thoughts exactly. I tried to look past the director but then I saw the cast too.

Duvall and is not even close if you ask me. Both represent a style i don't care too much, but at least Duvall is less about "hey, look i'm acting" in some moments.

Spike Lee films usually suck, wonder if he went on a rant about Quentin winning an Oscar for his "hate driven script."

Day-Lewis is the better actor, but Duvall has been in more great movies. Both are legendary.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

The Oldboy remake is going to be nowhere near the class of the original.

Spike Lee is a strange choice for director since that film doesn't seem to fit his style, but you never know it could be ok. Josh Brolin is pretty 'meh' to me and it'll be interesting to see how he performs in that role and if his character has changed from the original film. Plus, Spike Lee films are pretty dull. Apart from '25th Hour' with Edward Norton, that's good. Anyone seen that?

Also talking of Oldboy, has anyone seen 'I Saw The Devil'? It stars Choi Min-sik of Oldboy and it's a really great korean horror/thriller. Totally worth watching.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Why the fuck would they remake a classic like Oldboy aside from a quick cash grab? That's like trying to remake Blade Runner or Love Exposure, you'll never recreate the magic of the original.. ever.

The whole point of a remake is to add to a movie that feels dated by technology standards, or trying to put a fresh twist on something successful to introduce it to a new generation of audiences. It works well on films with huge brand recognition, not timeless cult classics that nailed it brilliantly the first time.

As psyched as I am for the Evil Dead remake, I don't even think THAT was needed.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

It's not so bad per se, a remake can also add a re-interpretation on the original take like Nosferatu or a more personal one like The Thing. And that need to remake classics to have the propper effect, on the contrasting views, this also update the notions of the movie and open new interpretations. The respect for the classic is needed but that didn't transform it on untouchable

Not that i want to defend Spike Lee, his movie will probably be atrocious

And i will probably do Escape from New York today or tomorrow because talking about The Fog was fun

At least Raimi and Campbell are the brains behind it. Plus, they've come out and said all effects are real, traditional, no CGI.

May the odds be ever in your favor...
