Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Forgot all about the Pianist when I made my list. It's definitely a very good movie. There's only a handful of Vietnam-based War movies that I really like, but most of them are mediocre and chock full of propaganda.

I don't know why the question but well...

Hanks tries to hard this "i'm an actor with a good range of interpretation" the faces and overreaction he does are almost comical. And the movie is too Spielberg (like all Zemeckis) wich means: Phony in the emotions department while repeating his message each and everytime possible in case you can't understanding it the first time

Didn't Paths of Glory does the same with his ending?

Hanks is just a flat out bad actor.

I personally adore that ending. A similar scene was used to close The Deer Hunter though in that case there was a brilliant sense of irony underlying the "God Bless America" sing-along.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I like Hanks in those early comedies, if Bachelor Party or the Money Pit are on tv im always down.

For war movies I'll give a shout for Das Boot just cos I dont think its been mentioned yet, though tbh it feels more like a really tense thriller to me.

Cross Of Iron is a great war movie. Love the ending.

Thin Red Line is up there for me, just love the style and themes Malick brought to that genre. Also Nick Nolte.

Yes! Malick at his best. If any film needed a longer 'director's cut' it's that one. So much talent that and so many scenes involving them that weren't even used in the final product.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Here is my Oscar predictions article:
http://www.hollywoodsnitch.com/?q=node/2004

I propose a little game in the article. Play along if you want. In the same 13 categories, pick a Should Win, Will Win and a Dark Horse. For each pick that wins, it is 3 for Should Win, 2 for Will Win and 1 for Dark Horse. After the Oscars, let's compare scores. Who's in?

EDIT: Head over here: http://www.wrestlingforum.com/entert...ions-game.html
