The fact that a film starring Danny Dyer, DENISE VAN OUTEN, Lionel Blair and...
flopped shocks me... I mean the film was advertised on The Alan Titsmarch Show and everything!
Also Once Upon A Time In the West > America

Sasha Grey wasn't anything to write home about. I'm all for people trying to act, outside their main profession (I like the Rock, JT, hell I even don't mind Cena); but she didn't do anything special in her movie.
I prefer her other work; and I'm not trying be funny, serious.

GINA CARANO wasn't the worst actor I've ever seen. She's in a pretty intense fight scene with Fassbender. spoiler: she beats his ass hard and it's awesome.
Soderbergh likes working with people that aren't actors...Carano, Grey, CHANNING TATUM, etc.

Watched Django and The Invention of Lying last night, enjoyed them both. Django is deserving of the acclaim it has.

The Invention Of Lying is enjoyable enough I found. I recently watched Cemetery Junction, which was written and directed by Gervais and Merchant. It's pretty good, I'd recommend it. Nothing outstanding but solid.

Yeah, I was thinking of checking that out, yeah very typically 'Gervais-esque- The Invention of Lying, there is always a style in his TV shows and movies, but consistent without being repetitve.

True. As good as America is, Once Upon A Time In the West is better, IMO the 2nd greatest Western of all time behind Good, Bad and Ugly. Charlie fuckin' Bronson!!

That's probably why at least half his movies kinda suck. Stick to actors.

Whenever I think of Connelly, something else comes up.

She's not terrible. The Girlfriend Experience just wasn't engaging.

With Grey and Carano as examples, Soderbergh is good at matching "specialty" individuals with roles in select films and build around them. Grey playing an escort during the financial collapse, and Carano playing a butt-kicking CIA agent. Neither are great actresses, but Carano's film worked better than Grey's.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
Soderbergh doesn't make a film now without Channing Tatum.
Didn't like The Invention of Lying at all tbh. Wasn't a bad idea, just fell really flat.
