Oh hey, SCJ speaking the truth again. Not long got back from seeing it. I appreciate they've accepted they'll never be able to recapture the charm and lasting impression of the original, but fuck me this didn't even strike me as 'mindlessly fun'. Everything from McClane's trademark rambling dialogue just felt empty and a parody of itself because it wouldn't be a Die Hard movie without it. The interactions with his kid were largely hollow and again just something that was used to build the movie in between the action. None of the villains were really all that special and the plot was basic and lacking in any real intrigue, drama or investment.
Jai Courtney had an interview before the film where he basically said it could compare to any Die Hard before it and had all the intagibles people wanted in the franchise. What a douche.
