He probably had a muzzle that kept him from fully fucking shit up.
Quite possibly seems to be the only reason.
This brief (negative) Synder bit was the exact push I needed to pop in Watchmen for tonight. Been tempted to watch it every night this week, only I say no b/c I'll be too engrossed by it and not want to eventually power down for sleep. Put it in at 5 am, over at 7 am, won't sleep till a bit following, have to get up by 10 am, you catch my drift.
asdf0501, did you like the Psycho remake? That movie really soured me on Gus in the late 90's, but he did a good job on his later work. Really didn't like the Death Trilogy as much as a lot of people, I know he's lauded for that.
I'd put Gus up there with Lars Von Tier as Directors that definitely defined the decade. I think Sion Sono is the greatest director of the 00s, but that's just me.
Just watched 'The Devils'. Really exposes the craziness, lunacy and complete ridiculousness of religion (albeit this is set in the 16th century), and it's obvious why this is one of the most controversial movies ever made. The fact that this was based on real events is pretty scary. The hallucination scenes are incredible and surreal, and pretty shocking at times. The film isn't really violent in what it shows on camera, it's more to do with what is happening off camera, but that's not the reason this caused such shit when it came out and has done ever since. It's the portrayal of religion and it's followers, the utter insanity of it all and the sexualisation of it. Oliver Reed is amazing in this, one of the better screen performances I can safely say I've ever seen, and the sets and the overall look of the film is so good. Just an incredible powerful piece of work with a whole lot to say. If you can find a way to watch this, then do it. I'd say it's an absolute must see for anyone that loves films and appreciates them as an art form. A masterpiece.
