Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
Van Sant is probably the greatest american director of the last decade (Him or Ferrara) So i have faith in him. Restless was great so i think he is still in form
His innovation since Gerry has been amazing and the better thing is that since then he is at least always experimenting in different things so even when he fail i commend him for taking the risk
Edit: Forgot to mention De Palma

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
asdf0501, did you like the Psycho remake? That movie really soured me on Gus in the late 90's, but he did a good job on his later work. Really didn't like the Death Trilogy as much as a lot of people, I know he's lauded for that.
I'd put Gus up there with Lars Von Tier as Directors that definitely defined the decade. I think Sion Sono is the greatest director of the 00s, but that's just me.

Agreed, that was a great movie to leave the franchise on. But like most things nowadays people always try and bring back old franchise, some have better success than others. But even if it's been over a decade since the last one, or a good length of time, just leave them alone and come up with something else. But having said that, though, I quite enjoyed Predators.
Still, never really cared for Die Hard 4. Didn't think it needed that CGI Jet at the end, didn't feel like a Die Hard movie with that in. Plus Long was just a horrible sidekick for Bruce, definitely not as great, or entertaining as Zeus. I'll still watch the next movie just to see what it's like.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
I don't like Vengeance as much as the others, but it's still a good movie. Die hard is one of the most consistent movie franchises.
Die hard 4 probably had the weakest sidekick and villain though. Raylan Givens vs John Mcclane should have been epic, but nope.
I watched a bit of Wrath of the Titans, from what i saw it was better than Clash of the Titans. Zeus/Hades/Perseus vs giant lava monster was better than the Kraken.

Just seen the trailer for Red 2. The first movie was average at best, why do they need a sequel?

Can't say I liked all of Gus Van Sants' movies, but most of them are very good and unique.

Last Days being one in the nay pile? It was for me, personally.

The Psycho remake is heavily hated and i understand why, but is another experiment. if you see well enough is almost a copy frame by frame of the original, so the question is: there is really a difference in the result with different actor?, when two different directors make the same work there is really a difference?if so, where is?.
The thing i never get was this supossed idea of the color, Gus does a collage of pop culture with them. If he was brave he should be do the movie in black and white like the original to retain the effect i was saying before.
Is difficult to make a list a directors from the last decade, is plenty of great work. For me, probably the best will be between Apichatpong, Hong Sangsoo and Costa. And i can't agree with Von Trier, Hate the guy

In the top 3 Van Sant movies, or top 3 movies of the last decade?
If it's the latter, that's a bold point. But I like that movie a whole lot more than most people. I think most expected something more down the biographical route if they didn't know about Van Sant's work prior to that film.
What does everyone think of Elephant? That's one of my Van Sant favourites.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II
In the top 3 of the last decade. Like, in general.
And That's the point, Cobain is a start point, the reality is, Van Sant doesn't care about him.
And Elephant is awesome.
