so i catch myself revisiting musicals to know how shitty, Les Mis really is (a movie that sadly saw the last Sunday) and i got a very wonderful top 5, so yeah, Les Mis sucks balls.
Musicals has the same adventage than the classic comedies in cinema, is all about the body, look for example at Chaplin or Buster Keaton and latter Jacques Tati, so in many points you need to focus in how to translate with the body and the shoots need to be about this, specially in the relation between body and space.
So the problem with Les Mis, is not that all the movie is singed (even if it can be a principal point) but the fact that everything seems rushed to be "serious" at the point the actors seems for moments concious of being acting while thinking "look how great i act, i'm above everyone else" while the directing delivers a trashy classical aproach about plot and everything seems incredible fake and painful.
But whatever, top 5:
Les parapluies de Cherburg - Jacques Demy
Singin' in the rain - Stanley Donen/Gene Kelly
My fair lady - George Cuckor
The band wagon - Vincente Minnelli
Moses und Aron - Straub/Huillet
and in other topic, finally tomorrow i will see Django
