Basically don't watch it if you don't want shit singers singing random stuff in your face for literally 2 hours 30 minutes.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

God I hated the Raid, couldn't get passed 20 minutes of that movie despite really wanting to. Whoever put the trailer together is a Genius because it made the movie seem infinitely better than the sum of it's parts.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I've had The Raid for about a month but haven't watched it yet. Will probably drive me over the edge and want to single handedly assault an Apartment complex.

Pretty sure ARGO is what I'm watching next. I want to get most of the oscar movies in so I can be enraged when the wrong movie wins.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I just hope Lincoln or Les Mis doesn't win.

Lincoln probably will though but the movie was dull.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

The Raid's not brilliant film or anything, it's a lot of fun though and that's all you need in a film like that. One of the most crazy martial arts films I've ever seen. DREDD had the same story basically but with far less action and less insane shit, and on it's own without that stuff the story isn't enough to make a film out of really.

DREDD felt like something that could have been done in one scene in a movie stretched out to a full length film.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

The Raid has been compared to Die Hard mixed with Game of Death. A more accurate comparison would be Indonesian cheese mixed with horrible acting, a plot thinner than Arn Anderson's hairline and action scenes that surpass Ong Bak levels of contrived. (though I actually liked Ong Bak).

McQueen, save yourself the time on this one. Even downing a bottle of Tennessee Honey couldn't make this thing seem better than it actually is.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I thought The Raid was fucking awesome. Certainly one of my favourite Action Martial Arts movies. Had bit's of Hard-Boiled, mixed with Ong-Bak. The only thing I didn't really like was the over long fight at the end with the two brothers against the crazy sidekick of the gang leader.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

eh, I take that back. Tennessee Honey might do the trick.

Some people on here seemed to like it, I just think it could've been better if the movie wasn't taking itself so seriously. It lacks the quirkiness and charm of a Tony Jaa movie, and what similar action movies from the late 80s/early 90s had. The Director seems to go under the notion that MOAR blood and violence makes up for a compelling narrative.

Depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a "check your brain at the door" action fun flick then I guess you might like it, but there's better movies out there for that imo.
