Re: Red Dwarf Series X Discussion Thread

I just watched the first episode of series 3, 'Backwards', and the beginning is a Star Wars-style stream of text which completely throws away everything that happened at the end of series 2, replaced Holly with Hilly but it was still Holly, and brought back Kryten looking, speaking and acting completely different. I could imagine them cracking themselves up as they wrote it.

I was always under the impression when Lister talked of his 'parents', he was talking about his adoptive parents.

But I do understand what you're saying. I think the reason I have a problem with it is I am more invested in Rimmers character than I am Lister and Cat which is why the fact that Lister being Cats God never being brought up anymore doesn't annoy me but this Rimmer thing did.

Anywho, no reason to just stick to series 10 lets make this a general Red Dwarf fans thread

Favourite Season/Episodes anyone?

Mine would be series 6 which also contains my two favourite episodes, Rimmerworld and Emohawk: Polymorph II.

I really enjoyed the new episode. It had a shaky start, but kept improving. I am hopeful for the rest of the series if it maintains that improvement curve.
Not to mention his getting pregnant and not so much as a mention ever again.

For fans, I'd suggest watching season 6 with the commentaries on. I swear it's just as entertaining as the episodes (3 or 6 are my favorite seasons).

That's actually one of the things that gets dealt with in the series 3 opening episode with the Star Wars-style titles.

Apparently, he gave birth to two boys, Jim and Bexley, but because they were from a different dimension they grew really fast. They were the size of 18 year olds three days after birth. So Lister sent them back to their dad (the female Lister) in the other dimension so they could have a normal life, sort of.

I forgot all about that.

I never minded the lack of continuity. If anything, it allowed them to not write themselves into a corner.

Re: Red Dwarf Series X Discussion Thread

2nd episode was alright (not as good as the first one), bit with the video/guitar was good. I must say even though these are nowhere near as good as it once was I'm still pleasantly surprised with the new series so far.

As for my favourite season/episode, would probably go with Season 5 or 6 (too close to call) with my favourite episodes being either 'Back to reality' or 'Gunmen of the apocalypse'.

Agree with this entire post. 2nd ep was alright but not as good as the 1st ep of the new season, and so far I've been pleasantly surprised by the new season.

Back to Reality and Gunmen of the Apocalypse are two incredible episodes.

Going to make that a poll.

Watched episode 2 today, I think this season needs one stand out episode like the seasons before. It did have its high points with Lister giving a message to himself.

EDIT: So how do I make a poll on a thread I already made?

Re: Red Dwarf Series X Discussion Thread

Liked episode 2, the video was well funny. I think the next episodes will likely focus on each of the characters. First one was reintroducing them all, this latest one was mostly about Lister, so I'd expect Rimmer will be next, then Cat and Kryten focused episodes, then hopefully the last one will be a stereo-typical cliffhanger which they'll completely ignore for series 11.

I'm loving the old-schoolness of a lot of the jokes. Naylor seems to be trying (and mostly succeeding so far) in bringing the show back to its roots. I'm starting to get used to them looking older now as well. It didn't stand out as much to me this second episode as much as it did in the first one.

We just need that Rimmer focused episode and I'll be delighted with the series.

Another good episode, if anything better than last week. Could of done without the Chinese Whispers joke it was predictable from the off and didn't have any pay off.
