I don't think the very end is meant to be subtle at all. If it were, Nolan is losing his touch.

Also on the cops ditching the robbers for Batman, I think that was more down to the obvious admiration for Dent and that Gordon wasn't in command. The cops didn't know that Bane was BANE and thought it was a simple robbery, not an organised terrorist attack. The Batman on the otherhand is believed to be the murderer of Dent and Gordon's successor is in command.

Provided they make other scenes shorter otherwise no.

Its really interesting to compare the Bane Vs. Batman fight from the movie to the comic.

In the movie,

Plus it made Bane a likeable villain by being such a badass.

In the comics, a dead tired Batman, who spent the night rounding up a bunch of escaped criminals, is confronted by Bane at the Wayne mansion. Like a lion pouncing upon a helpless gazelle, Bane defeats Batman in easy fasion, but what made it even worse was that he threw many insults as well as b*tchslapped his opponent before crippling him. From a villain's standpoint, it was a brilliant move. From the other side, Bane was the ultimate coward. I think the comic book did everything it could to make you hate Bane. At least tried to.

as for Bane, the fight in the movie reminded me of the dark knight returns fight vs the mutant leader. batman was older, out of it, coulda figured a hundred ways to put bane down going from bombs to tranqs, but instead just had to take him on. in a way to prove he could still do it, and in another to break bane's control of the army by beating him in open combat one on one.

he lost both fights ofcourse

as for knightfall, from what i remember, batman never beat bane there, azarael did, and only by being fucking crazy and using a mech armour. and then azarael could only be stopped by batman himself

not sure what happened in later fights though
