Ha. I'm glad this guy got banned, but I wish I could have bodied him first. Shame.

Anyway, good end to the first half of the season. Show will be second tier by the time it finishes. No shame in that at all.

re: Breaking Bad Thread (NO SPOILERS OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD. INCLUDING SIGS & CHATBOX.)

So I just watched the season from start to finish now that the last ep aired and I'm not really sure what to say. The action picked up pace this season, the characters showed more development than the previous 4 years combined and the inclusion of a few new people into the mix seemed positive. The only thing I'll take away from it is that by focusing on the characters so much and developing them so well I feel like they neglected the plot of the season a bit.

I wasn't really sure at times why they were cooking or what their reasoning for it was. It became a little more clear towards the end of the season but I felt like it was missing a bit of underlying direction. Still an outstanding season and probably the best so far (or a close second to season 4). But I feel like at the current point there is at least a season and a half left in the show but I know it's ending in 8 episodes.

The only down side of a more serious season is less Saul! The episodes and scenes he appeared in he stole for me.

Very good stuff.

re: Breaking Bad Thread (NO SPOILERS OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD. INCLUDING SIGS & CHATBOX.)

I'm quite curious to read everybody's opinion about this question.

Which scene of mass-murder on Breaking Bad is your favorite or which do you think is better....?

Gus Fring poisoning himself and the entire Cartel (at the very least, the important Cartel members)?

Walt & co. taking out all 9 or 10 of Gus's former employees?

The prison murders scene was well done and something that seemed literally impossible but Walt in Heisenberg mode made it look easy but I don't think it even comes close to what Gus accomplished. The Cartel was making it very hard for Gus to run his vast and very professional empire and they would of most likely ended up killing Gus if he wouldn't start working for them. Instead Gus decided that he wasn't going to work for anybody and that he was BOSS so he poisoned the alcohol that was passed out to everybody, the Cartel members and himself. The boss or don of the Cartel was really cautious/suspicious but once Gus drank the alcohol first, he thought errrythang was gravy which it was not. While everybody was enjoying their drink, Gus excused himself and went to the bathroom to... expel the poison he consumed and he ended doing such and getting most of it out. While he was doing that, outside Jesse was sitting with that hilarious look of being surprised, shocked, scared, nervous, and anxious all at once while all the Cartel member were dropping like flies.

That scene was easily my favorite Breaking Bad moment and it showed how BADASS Gus was by ingesting the poison himself to make it seem like the alcohol was legit. Mike had a great quote when Jesse asked what was going to happen and Mike said something like "Either we're all leaving Mexico or nobody is leaving Mexico" which was great. It also showed how smart and just awesome Gus was by him already having a makeshift emergency room setup back in the states with a surgeon/doctor just hoping for the best but expecting the worse which ended up saving both Mike & Gus' lives.

Also Hank's hospital and therapy bills were paid with with Walt's drug money. Walt could easily claim Hank was in on it the whole time.

Yeah Hank will have to handle the situation by himself, which could lead to him losing his job anyway for not paying attention to other cases. Walt is safe till Hank figures out a way to handle the situation with no fallback I think.

Gus's cartel poisoning was easily the best massacre scene. It hit harder emotionally, because of Gus's history with the Cartel, and was pulled off in a cool way too. I loved Walt standing around in his darkened house and looking at his watch tho. Great scene there.

Gus' cartel scene was far superior to the prison scene, as good as that one was. There was a lot more suspense involved as there were multiple major characters you cared about involved who might not make it out, whereas the prison scene was just unnamed lackeys and didn't feature any twists. I don't think it's a fair comparison, really.

Not to mention the build-up with Gus' flashback scenes to when he first met with the cartel.

Yeah the entire Hermanos episode and the in depth look at Gus' history with the Cartel definitely makes that massacre scene better than the Prison massacre (despite again being incredibly well shot and done). 'Hermanos' might be Esposito's best bit of acting as Gus Fring tbh, he was incredible at conveying a varying sense of emotions and I couldn't believe how sympathetic they made him when they did the flashback to how he first came to meet the Cartel, considering all his threats to Walt's family as well as how eerily great he was at manipulating people by hiding in plain sight.

FWIW Esposito has 'Hermanos' as his nominated episode for the potential Emmy of Best Supporting Actor. Pleased for him because although Aaron Paul IMO should win, Hermanos is maybe in my top 5 Breaking Bad episodes and is definitely the best evidence for how great he was as Gus Fring.

do you wait for the show to finish so you can watch it all together? Or did you just re-watch it altogether?

The Gus/Cartel posining scene was much better. It had a lot of history behind it, and he was not just killing nobodies that were already in jail. Plus it was a surprising poison that i think was pulled off much better. The jail killings were cool but there was barely suspense, it was kind of cool, but The poisoning scene was way better.
