From a ratings and marketing standpoint, I have no criticisms of Breaking Bad. Artistically, this never ending crime story is artificial and surrounds the most unlikable cunts I've ever seen. Greg House is a deeply sensitive gentleman compared to Walter White.
So BB is artificial, but Dexter, a show where every other person in Miami is some sort of serial killer, is not?

BB is all about characters, you know, breaking bad. That is one of the best aspects of the show. Most of the major characters have done things which are frowned upon by society, but they show how the characters struggle with their morals. It is up to the viewers to still like the characters or not. But we get to see what drove them to those extremes. Walter White started out as a man who you felt sympathetic about but at this point in the story he has completely turned over to the "dark side". The show has shown his slow change perfectly with him really questioning his deeds in the early seasons. It is fascinating to watch.

Don't know when the producers of Dexter were changed but it would make sense to me if it was after season 4. Seasons 1, 2 and 4 were the peaks of the show imo and since then the show has declined. Last season was a bit of an improvement from 6 but the sloppy writing was still there. And the best parts of 7 were the characters of Edward James Olmos and Mos Def, not Travis Marshall. Don't really care that the ratings have improved. That just means that Showtime is making lots of money, doesn't prove that the show is improving.

Edit - Forgot to mention that, along with Mad Men, BB is one of the most beautifully shot TV shows of all time. The cinematography, music, hell even the sound design, is almost always perfect.

wow i just noticed Paul Heyman and Saul Goodman are awfully familiar names, and ends up they're both lawyers too. Plus they're both really witty and talk alot. Probably a coincidence but who knows.

Dexter didn't vastly improve. The first 3/4 seasons were great, but after that it vastly declined in quality.

Making money is important because it helps guarantee that the shows can continue. The show has improved greatly, And yes, I do believe that a city like Miami is littered with murderers of different flavors, not necessarily serial killers.

There's nothing fascinating about watching a pile of garbage allowing himself to toss aside his morals.

Stating lies over and over again doesn't turn them into facts.

It's not a lie it's a generally accepted fact by even some of the biggest Dexter fanboys. You're lying to yourself if you thought season 5 and 6 were as good or better than season 1 and 2.

re: Breaking Bad Thread (NO SPOILERS OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD. INCLUDING SIGS & CHATBOX.)

How is it not fascinating to watch a good honest man stricken by cancer risk everything to provide for his family, only to slowly become corrupted by the necessity to kill in order to survive in the game and slowly but surely lose the focus of his morality and become enamoured with the wealth and newfound power a once weak and futile man now possesses?

I haven't watched Dexter since half of Season 5 where I just gave up on the show, which after the triumphant success that was Season 4 seemed astounding to me.

You talk about how Breaking Bad supposedly hasn't developed and is just the same plot every season (something I find absurd when you actually look at each season and see how it develops Walter's descent into evil, Jesse's development as the pure moral soul of the show, Skyler's breakdown in marriage due to Walt's new persona etc etc) but isn't that exactly the same plot that dominates Dexter season upon season? Dexter is confronted by a rival killer and strives to eliminate the killer whilst also exploring themes which challnege his life code and force him to understand society in order to develop not only as a person but as a serial killer (e.g marrying Rita, having a child, becoming a single father after Rita's death etc).
