Re: Game of Thrones
I will definitely be watching. They seem to be sticking to the books, which are pretty complex with a ton of characters. Might be intimidating to new people. Found this: http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/c...rew/index.html on HBO's main page, gives you a rough guide to the characters. Basically its a fantasy kingdom being fought over by several great houses, with zombies/dragons tossed in the mix. The strongpoint is its number of amazing, memorable characters imo. Its definitely aimed more towards adults than kids.
I loved the books, and I'm not really a 'fantasy' kinda guy, so looking forward to the show.
You should edit the thread title to include 'HBO tv series'.

Figure there should be a new thread for the show, guess thats the OP's intention.

Re: Game of Thrones
Yeah the other thread is as much for the books as it is for the show. It's filled with spoilers. A new one is welcome for sure, but we should only discuss the actual show. Leave the books and spoilers out if this.
And Game of Thrones really isn't anything like LOTR save they're both fantasy. Game of Thrones is brutal, filled with sex, as well as other very adult themes. It's definitely a show for adults only. I suppose the LOTR is almost unavoidable as it's the most mainstream example of fantasy in existence. The supernatural in Game of Thrones is far less ubiquitous than it is in LOTR. In fact, at times you forget it's a fantasy realm. Then something amazing happens and you mark the fuck out as a dragon melts some poor bastard's face.
Oh and how bout that Emilia Clarke?

Even the look isn't like LOTR, at least to me.
I wasn't sold on that Emilia Clarke chick before, seen some new pics now though. Smoking.
Wonder if my avatar counts as a spoiler.

From interviews I've seen her in she's seems very enthusiastic and eager. She's easily one of the most important, if not most important characters for this thing to work.
And yeah, smoking.

Re: Game of Thrones
I agree with Mister, a new thread for the TV show was needed because the old one was littered with spoilers; I'd still like to see that thread in use though as we used it religiously at one point and had some great discussions so I think that should be used separately for the books.
Glad to see there are more people on the forum who have heard of this I thought there were only 4 or 5 of us .
ASOIAF is so much better than LOTR and is in a complete different league in every aspect imaginable. I really hope they decide to run with the ball they've been given with this show, if done right it could easily be the best program on television at the moment. The character I'm most looking forward to seeing on the show is The Hound, easily, imho, the best character in the series.
Yeah agreed, Emilia is stunning.
