Podrick thing must be leading to something right? I thought it was comic relief last week, but seeing that they mentioned it now 2 weeks in a row there must be some point. I can't think of any book story that they've changed and made Podrick the center of though. So I don't know what it's about.
The only thing I can think from the books is that Pod spends a lot of time with Brienne on her quest. So now Pod has saved Tyrion's life and is also so good at sex, whores refuse his money. It's hard to forget a character when he's doing stuff like this. Otherwise, he is very much in the background. Giving him this sex thing keeps him memorable, as he'll be with a major character a lot in the future.
LC's theory is the best explanation though, at least for sanity's sake. However, after Ros and Varys's conversation, it seems the refusal of payment was legit. This doesn't 100% mean it was, but it does seem that way now.
As for its relevance to the overall story, I can't find any either.
