It would have made more sense, if you know, Oberyn wasn't dead. That kind of stuff adds to character. Oh hey, he tried to kill a man. Tyrion stole that death from him, what's that to to Oberyn? etc.

Decided to do a re-read and am halfway GoT now. Curious to see if I can find some new stuff because tbh I never really thought about most theories floating around on the internet

I didn't catch the Jon Snow stuff until I read about it on the internet, and that was even after a re-read. Maybe it's all the little details behind the scenes that GRRM puts in that delays the story coming out?

I feel like George Martin confirmed the Jon Snow theory without even intentionally doing so.

He was on a talk show 2 years ago and was asked what's the R+L=J internet acronym was all about, and his response was "No Jon Snow mommy questions", except the guy didn't even know what R+L=J was about and asked nothing about Jon's lineage, so it was an interesting response.

Perhaps more importantly, at a book signing someone asked him about the theory and his response was to say he's not going to change the story just because people may have figured something out.

So maybe I read too much into that, but to me it reads like he confirmed the theory without actually realizing it. If that makes any sense.

Yeah, I guess. I do read into things too much quite a bit sometimes, I will admit.

I think if I read into things a little more closely I'd pick up on these hints that everyone brings up in the thread. Instead they go right over my head.

I always figured Balon's death was fishy (see what I did there?) since it didn't get much attention in the books. People just mention it in dialogue and when I first read it I was like "What? Balon died?"
