Franken-Gregor is being held in reserve to fight as Cersei's second in her trial by combat. She's not being tried by the nobles, she's being tried by the High Septon - who I am sure would avail himself of a Sandor, and is shrewd enough to know about him through his intelligence network.

As for Aerys as the father of Tyrion - I hate it as a theory. That was the whole point of the Tyrion story arc. The one child Tywin couldn't tolerate was the only one with the right stuff to be his successor. Make him a Targaryen, and that all goes out the window.

That got me thinking...isn't there a theory that says Sandor is the hooded man hanging out with some Septons in the woods? Were those people Septons? When they need to choose their champion I guess Sandor would be it.

Yes. Sandor is most likely alive and was digging graves when we saw him last. The High Septon would most likely know that one of the most dangerous men in Westeros was now a part of the faith and working/living at one of the monasteries.

I never made that connection with Sandor, thought he was dead.

Yeah I missed it myself at first but on a reread it makes perfect sense. I did noticed the passage about it, I just didn't put 2 & 2 together. I figured THE HOUND was still alive though. He's too badass to kill off page.

I don't think so. I think we'll see UnGregor kill some scrub (Lancel?) in that fight. Cersei is going to win - isn't there a prophecy saying her children will die before her? Of course Sandor would loosely fit the Valonquor prophecy (he is gregor's younger brother) but I don't think the timelines work out and it'd be a bit 'A wizard did it' if the High Septon could work out Sandor was a monk on an island in a place I can't imagine he'd have that much interest in? Plus he seems a zealot, he probably believes his champion is blessed by the Seven. I just don't see a reason The High Septon would know/be informed of a grave digger? And the trial by seven is going to happen soon, I just don't see a) Sandor being able to get there in time or b) Cersei's champion losing and c)Sandor losing in a fight versus Gregor. So I don't think it works. Cersei needs to wreak a little more havok, first. I think the only way Sandor would volunteer was if he heard it was Gregor and even then I think he may only fight to save his life. Fuck Sandor is so awesome, though.

Sorry kinda got wall-o-texty, there.

I think that was one of the only things I actually did catch the first time I read it. Every other fucker in this thread talking about shit that totally flew over my head made me feel like a spastic, though.

He's not a gravedigger, he's SANDOR CLEGANE. It's definitely within reason that Elder Brother would've told the High Septon that one of the most dangerous men walking the planet was living at one of the Seven's monasteries.

I do agree GRRM probably does play against expectation and has Robert Strong, guys he's seriously not Gregor Clegane anymore (he's possibly headless), win the trial by combat. This doesn't mean Sandor won't show up later and destroy the abomination.

Yeah, I definitely see him destroying Gregor but I think Robert Strong has to win the trial....or he's been built up for nothing. I also think Jaime needs to be involved in Cersei's downfall, somehow. I get that twists and surprises need to happen - but I'd be disappointed if Jaime didn't fuck over Cersei in some small way, it's predictable but it's fitting. Anyway, I kind of think Lancel will be the champion for the faith (lol) and get fucking murdered. And Cersei smugly gets away with it, does crazy shit, does more crazy shit and then her world comes crumbling down around her and she dies. Or something. P.s. the walk of shame thing in Dance was a pretty uncomfortable read. I know it's accurate for Martin's world but the whole concept of 'stripping the whore' is pretty...uncomfortable, I guess? Certainly to read about. It's not even something I cheered too much, just because it kind of shows the disgusting people in the Faith too.

I suppose a lot depends on if the priest guy truly believes what he's saying to Brienne - I think publicising Sandor's existence would be pretty dangerous, to anyone. (For him) It's possible he does believe Sandor can be of use the faith because of who he is and has told the high septon, I guess.

lol I do like your Lancel v Strong idea. I'm sure Lancel will think his faith will protect and preserve him and then Strong ends him in seconds.

Assuming Jaime survives his meeting with Stoneheart (he will), yeah I want Jaime to be instrumental in Cersei's downfall too. I don't want him killing her though. He seems over her, and him killing her would be kinda out of character unless she committed some terrible atrocity.
