Re: SPOILER *all five books* THREAD FOR Game of Thrones (TV series discussion)
I don't think you could call Robb an idiot, I mean he is a fantastic military commander, and won every single one of his battles - he takes after Ned so much. Yes he was a fool for betraying the Freys, but it's not really betraying; Walder Frey is just a dick. Several characters even say, Jaime and Tywin Lannister for example, that had Robb not fell in love with Jeyne that he would have easily won the war.
Personally I believe TWoW will start with the Other's invasion pretty early and it will all be wrapped up by the end of the book. The final book will detail the rest of politicking over the Iron Throne. We'll get Jon leading the united forces of the North (Nights watch, Wildings, Stannis's army, the North's bannermen, possibly even the some of the Iron Islanders) and marching south to deal with Dany and her army (Dothraki, Unsullied, Golden Company, Dorne, Dragons, Tyrell's and Tyrion.) And voila we have a final battle on the Trident.
As for other things:
We'll get one last meeting between Jaime and Tyrion, it may not be a happy reunion though. But I do think Tyrion will finally tell Jaime that he wasn't the one who killed Joffrey.
Rober Strong is gonna defeat the Faith's champion, and free Cersei and Cersei. Aegon Targaryen is going to storm Kings Landing with the Golden Company and the Martell's and take the city. In the process killing Tommen, Tommen will have his head bashed against a wall ironically. Cersei will retreat to Casterly Rock and that will be how we first see the Rock.
Darkstar is revealed to be the son of Brandon Stark and Ashara Dayne, or possibly even Aerys the Mad King's son after potentially raping Ashara. Darkstar will find Myrcella and kill her, then make his way north to King's Landing.
Brienne is going to take Jaime to UnCat and her new BwB. She will set her champion against Jaime, Jaime will prevail after his training with his left hand, to everyones surprise. UnCat makes Jaime swear an oath that he will find Sansa. Jaime sets off for the Vale immediately. In the meantime Cersei learns this is the location of Sansa Stark and sends Qyburn and Robert Strong to get rid of her once and for all. Whilst a certain Blackfish washes up on the shore of the Quiet Isle and a certain Gravedigger overhears that the Blackfish intends to go to the Vale as he believes that is where he believes Sansa Stark is in hiding, and this Gravedigger decides to follow the Blackfish there. Voila, Bran's dream in the very first book comes true, we get the Jaime/Sandor/Gregor confrontation in the Vale.
Mance Rayder is definitely not who we think he is. He knows too much off the world south of the Wall to have been some infant boy that the Watch find with a group of Wildings BEYOND the Wall. He is too educated, he is too cultured, it is said multiple times by several character's that Mance possesses a skill with a sword unparalleled by any other at the Wall. There is no possible way he could have became this good of a swordsman at the Wall. I have danced about with a few theories on who he could be and I've came to a few different conclusions, but my current idea is that he is Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning and the greatest knight to ever live.
Stannis Baratheon will fall in battle with the Others, whilst Ramsay Bolton will become the new Night's King.
And of course, Jaime is going to kill Cersei by strangling her with his golden hand.
Just a few idea's I think might happen, and if they don't, would be pretty cool.
Also, my own personal preference for the overall ending of the series would be:
''And then Jaime Lannister, sat atop the Iron Throne, and he waited, to see who would come and claim the realm.''
