Seems i never learn to not watch screen adaptions of books i love. Even if they're fantastic (though i'm not saying this first episdoe was), i just can't get past the annoyance i feel towards the inevitable changes that are made, often for no apparent reason. For instance what was the purpose of having Will escape the Others and eventually be beheaded as a deserter rather than Gared as it is in the book? Then other little things like Jaime's armor being indistinguishable from that of the rest of the Kingsguard.

And then of course it's rare that characters will match up with the image you have of them in your head, which is of course understandable and to be expected, but still dissapointing. Theon for example is absolutely nothing like i pictured him, and due to this and the fact he wasn't named at any point during the episode, it took me a while to actually realise that it was him. Also the accents seem completly wrong to me, particularly those of Jon and Robb.

One thing that i feel they did a particularly good job of was capturing the relationship between Arya and Sansa. And of course the Wall looked amazing.

Peter Dinklage fucking nailed it, btw. When I started reading the books I couldn't help but picture him as that ugly little bearded fellow from Lord of the Rings. And that annoyed me because Lord of the Rings fucking sucks. But Peter Dinklage does not and he was awesome and MrMister was totally right when he was going on about how Peter Dinklage would be awesome all those months ago.

Whoever it is playing Viserys nailed that character, too. Such a great scumbag little cunt. Also appears Jaime will be as fun in the show as he is in the books.

Viserys and Jaime stole the show for me, for sure.

Viserys was absolutely fantastic, if any of the characters were spot on their versions in the series, then it was definitely Viserys. Complete scumbag. I loved it when Drogo left and Viserys ran after him squealing ''Where's he going!?''; summed Viserys up to a tee.

I like how the show is embracing Jaime's ASOS part 2 - AFFc character and implementing it this early on into the series. It shows that Jaime isn't this totally cold, heartless bastard that we assumed he was when we first read AGOT and ACOK. I love his relationship with Tyrion.

I thought Theon was excellent too, you already get the impression straight away from his scene with the Direwolves that he is this complete wanker that we see the full extent of in ACOK. Definitely one of the best character's in the books and show so far. However, the actor who portrays him looks nothing like I envisioned him. I pictured Theon looking a lot like Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, no idea why though . Also, if I had my way I'd swap Theon and Rodriks role around, so Theon accompanies Cat on her journeys so we get to see more of him, it would be a waste of his character to see the bare minimal of him like we do in AGOT, and Rodrik really hasn't made an impression yet and in fairness seems fairly dull. I'd much rather see Theon following Cat around, keeping Cat on her toes because she doesn't really t...t him and finds something disturbing about the way he ''smiles all the time.''

Martin has also confirmed that an unexpected death will happen in the first series as well. A character who dies in ASOS in the books is going to bite the dust in the first series. I have my suspicions of who it could be but of course I don't want to ruin anything for the guys who haven't read the books.

Also heard that Robb is going to be the main character of the second series when the producers get round to making it. I hear that his story is going to be greatly expanded and we'll be seeing much more of him in the series than we do in the books. I'm all for this because we hear of Robb getting up to all of this awesome stuff but never see it. And of course, making Robb the pivotal character of the second series will make that all important scene in the ASOS part of the show; that much better.

Pretty sure he means Narnia. If you don't mean Narnia you should Andy.

The prologue was the best thing about the pilot. Yes, it was different, but it did what it needed to do and it did it well. The only thing that didn't make sense is the Other/Walker allowing him to get away.

Theon is pretty minor in AGoT as I remember it. Now they might change that, but naming him would probably confuse people not familiar with the books. They already introduced a very large cast to start this. Theon is integral, and a very dislikable weasel, but give it some time. I also thought he looked a lot like how I envisioned him. Robert looks nothing how I thought he looked, but the actor nailed his presence.

I think they swapped them around to prove a point that a seasoned, hardened veteran of the Nights Watch like Gared wouldn't just desert. I think using the younger guy was a better move on the producers part for a number of reasons. I can think of a few reasons why the Wight let Will escape though. My best guesses are either that the Others wished for the rest of Westeros to know that they were returning or the Wight possessed some intelligence and guessed that the trauma he had caused to Will was much more painful and sinister than just killing him. One thing I didn't like was the immediate killing of Waymar though. In the book Waymar dies bravely facing the Wights head on in a duel, I think he says something a long the lines of ''Dance...''. Also would have been better to see Waymars reanimated corpse kill Gared.

I pictured Robert looking more like Henry III, but yeah agreed with Mister, Addy nailed him. If only he was a foot taller...

It seems as if Viserys is going to be the foremost antagonist of the first series, based on first impressions. At least in the books he had a sympathetic side to him, due to seeing him through Dany's eyes and knowing how hard his life has been. But yeah, no problems with the way he's portrayed at all. Best performance of the pilot in my eyes, followed by Jaime.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/04/19/ga...rones-renewed/ Second Season greenlit. No surprise.

Also it got some fucking fantastic ratings on Sky, and did pretty well on HBO.

That's good news. So we're at least getting to A Clash of Kings. Davos and Mel ftw.

I agree that the Other let him go as a harbinger. I also think it knew that he'd be thought insane and no one would listen to him. Still, this is not clear at all. This is a good thing though. The Others/Walkers need to remain mysterious just like they are in the books still to this day.

Don't count out another as yet unrevealed character as the foremost antagonist. Probably should not name him despite him being an obvious douche.

One thing that now concerns me is that scene of Bran on top of Winterfell. There are certain elements that show up at the end of this season and will be permanent fixtures for the apparent duration. I really hope those certain elements look better than Bran on top of Winterfell.
