I'm catching up with the rest of the world seemingly and watching the Wire. About half way through series 2 at the moment. Probably one of the best shows I've ever seen (top 50 maybe)

Catching up with series 2 of Homeland.

Not impressed so far, hate the "relationship" between Brody & Carrie.

The show was always brilliant from a visual sense, as well as being brilliantly acted, written and all the characters being interesting and provoking. Season 5 though really pushes the series into darker areas and really delves closer into the psyches of a lot of the characters as the world begins to slowly change. Pete's story arc is heartbreaking and gripping, Don's family life and struggle to come to terms with the changing nature of society makes for a great story arc, Penny and Joan both grow and have different takes on the place of a woman in the man's world and its really interesting how both characters have to face largely similar issues but take extraordinarily different paths along the way.

Near enough every character has a story/direction throughout the series and the build into the closing episodes is magnificent with a lot of subtle storytelling devices being implanted in numerous episodes that set up a possible gripping climax. I won't say much more for fear of spoiling anything you wish to find out for yourself. Its essentially got everything you love about Mad Men, but I found they tackled and presented a lot of symbols and ideals terrificly and developed numerous characters over the course of the season to greater heights.
Haven't gotten into Mad Men yet, this pretty much just sold me on a near future queue.

How many shows do you consider "one of the best shows I've ever seen"?

Well S3 and S4 are the best seasons anyway, I think. (S2 is also probably some sort of masterpiece though, just underrated by most fans because it's a bit slow. But Frank Sobatka = a GOAT)

Maybe he typod 5. IDK. I need to finish Carnivale (Got through some of S1 and it was cool) and Deadwood in HBO stuff. (Well and a bunch more, Six Feet Under and Treme seem interesting, too)

edit: IMAGINATION GHOST ON DEXTER? CAN'T GO WRONG (i pity any good actor working with that script for s6 of dexter)

Is Carnivale definitely worth a watch then? I recall NoGimmicksNeeded months ago saying it was one of his favourite shows of all time and would have been near the top had it not ended prematurely, made a note to try and watch it but like many things that fell apart when I got hooked on something else.

Still need to finish Deadwood as well. Think I finished Season 1 and then just never got around to watching the rest. Loved the writing, the characters and the acting but it just hadn't properly grabbed me yet. Reminded me of the early seasons of Mad Men in a way, whereby I really enjoyed the show but it wasn't until midway through Season 3 that I truly began to love it.
