SNL did a skit with Louie CK where they parodied Abe Lincoln to the style of Louie's TV show, it was fucking hilarious

I don't know how long it will last, NBC has been taking the video down all day.

Re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

I've finished season 1 of 'The Office', the original, I'm just about to start season 2.

It's gaining on Extras: 'I think there's been a rape up there!' I'm possibly going to shout that in many different scenarios to get attention, haha.

I get what you're saying, I've been a Ricky Gervais fan for a while and I'm just watching it now.

I've not seen The Office US, I've seen some bits, but I like the style of short seasons, although it's good with bigger seasons of TV shows, I like the 'quality over quantity feel'.

His shows are all pretty similar, and you can easily connect him and the characters he plays,
I'm enjoying, there's quite a bit of the quote-to-quote funny stuff, I still have Extras in the lead just now though.

Re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

I'm a huge advocate of The Office here in the US. They've hit it out of the park since Season One for me. But, there was something about the UK version that always fell flat for me. I knew what the humor was meant to be at the spots, but nothing clicked. The way they decided to do it in the States was the overall better format, imo. I really love how they've intertwined heart with the incredible wackiness of the show. Grown to love those characters over the years.

US Office ranks on a top 5 all time TV show list for me. (as if you couldn't already tell)

Never seen Extras. Only clips. That might be better for me. Good to watch something with Gervais on it and like it. I usually enjoy the guy more when he's simply talking for the hell of it. Naturally funny. Being a sarcastic twat is underrated. It can work if you do it well. Like Ricky.

Yeah, I've seen your rave reviews of The Office US around, haha, it's still going for a reason though.

Gervais tends to distance himself from versions that aren't his original, it keeps his kinda' style and structure going, while he just gets other versions going, lets them do their thing and takes a good bit of the money from it.

US comedies do tend to be more 'loud', literally and not literally, if you get what I mean, like The Office US, Parks and Rec. and Modern Family (I watch that), even those which are 'mockumentary' style are different from Gervais' versions of mockumentary.

They are more flat, but it works, the only one, which was recent, was Life's Too Short, which had it's good bits, but it just okay, his show are pretty similar, it's just the situations and emotions in each of his different shows which normally separate them from each other more than anything else, and he/casting have a good knack for supporting casts.

Check out Extras.

Re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

Nothing wrong with that mentality. Gervais sticks with his originals and makes a cool buck off ideas spawned by him. That's a fair deal.

That's true. The comedy does jump out at me more. Which is funny, because The Office US is still pretty dry in the humor department on some occasions. I guess that simply speaks the volumes in the levels that Office UK was working on. Maybe I'll take the time to give it another chance. Maybe. Who knows what a second go around could provide.

Extras is on the list.

Cool, post what you think whenever you've seen a bit of it, hopefully I should see it.

The Office probably would come across maybe a bit better the second time, as I said I don't know about the US version, but in the UK there are little things to pick up on all the time, facial expressions and stuff.
