re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

Finally start watching Game of Thrones today, watched 7 episodes so far. A good show, quite faithful to the books (which i'm currently on 'A Feast of Crows').

I didn't bother with it that much since i was reading the books at pretty much the same time the series started figured i'm not gonna spoil them for the series. Obviously the books are a hundred times better, but i think the series actually works better after reading the books. I could see myself being much more removed from whats happening on the screen if i didn't become accustomed to the characters before hand.

The show focuses one how he has used his gifts to completely reinvent himself in a new world whilst still feeling caught up with a mixture of angst / sadness / confusion about the life he left behind.

But that's just the protagonist. The show also explores the different dynamics between men and women in the workplace, the frustrated lifestyle of housewives, the escalating breakdown of a marriage and how an advertising company strive to keep up with the fast changing times.

It is very reflective and character driven and an absolutely fascinating look at a bygone era with some of the best dialogue and arguably the best cast ever assembled for a tv show.

I've got The Take ready to watch, probably start it tomorrow.

Also there's no way you could jump in to The Wire at season 3 - 4 or so and understand fully what was happening. The pilot episode didn't actually leave that big an impression on me at all, I thought it was just ok, but after half way through the season it's clear you are watching something brilliant.

The Take is brutal, brilliant, agonising, polarising and above all else astounding. Hardy is just head and shoulders above the rest, but there's a string of captivating performances along the way. Episode 3 will probably leave you in shock btw.
