re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)
The Event is bad. like, BAD bad. worse than Persons Unknown. the whole "lets try to be a mystery like lost" thing is failing really, really hard. well, i guess not, because the ratings for the event are strong. but its no good at all, i wont follow it after i finish this season.
Psych is a decent show. nothing more.
Burn Notice is fun. i love the noir style though so i'm basically a mark.
and Sons of Anarchy was the best thing happening on TV until the season finale last week. but no worries, Californication starts in January so then that will be the best thing happening on TV.

Same thoughts, really. Love westerns, had high expectations for Deadwood... wasn't REALLY feeling it after 5 episodes. Still wound up buying the entire series off amazon. Haven't pikced up where I left off, though.

I would like to take this opportunity to suggest everyone watches Carnivale. There's only two seasons out of the planned six due to HBO being a dick and cancelling it for whatever reason (massive cost at making each episode?).
It's a level below The Wire and The Sopranos, but I'd put it right below them. I'd say its on par with shows like The Shield, Six Feet Under, Mad Men, Firefly. It's easily the most rewarding show I've ever watched and just completely sucks you into its mythology. Basically it's the story of the lead up to the final battle between good and evil in 1930's Dustbowl America, it looks like I imagine Grapes Of Wrath would, and is just beautifully written. It's obviously meant to be leading to the final battle in the context of the invention of the atomic bomb, it's sad it never got to that stage, but what was made is just brilliant. Brother Justin Crowe is one of the best characters I've ever seen.
Watching Oz right now, finally got round to buying the complete set as a Christmas present to myself. Just finished season 2 this week. So far so good.

funny, I just order Carnivale sets off Amazon, I watch the first season and loved it. Also I've been catching up on Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire, both shows are pure epic.

If you loved season 1, you should go crazy for the second season. It's less methodical and it seems like it moves at a much faster rate, and it's just riviting TV.

Well, for me, personally, I had reasonably high expectations. Maybe not anywhere near as high as yours, but I knew it was very highly thought of and I seeked out the show based on that.

yeah, 6 episodes in to carnivale. Good, very good in places. Second season being even better is certainly interesting. I'm very intruiged by what's gonna happen.

Oz is GREAT at it's best, but be warned there's a lot of questionable stuff too. Season 6 was very mediocre I thought.

The ratings are horrendous actually. Check out TVbythenumbers.com. It's a certainty for cancellation according to them. I watched the first 20 mins of the pilot and couldn't handle it. The sudden flashbacks are ridiculous. I'm all for telling stories in a unique way, but the writers aren't good enough to pull it off.
