I didn't even bother watching or DVR'ing it. I was just waiting for the people at work who were counting down the days for its premiere to tell me how it was; I am glad I didn't waste my time.

And man, Dylan McDermott aesthetically reminds me of Ross from friends and even if the show was decent, I don't know if I could take it seriously.

Dylan is a fair enough actor, has a damn serious look, but Ross...

re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Pan Am. Dismal but it was better than The Playboy Club. The way the episodes were set up (on a plane with all the characters having flashbacks) I kept expecting them to crash on an island.

I don't understand why the writers of these Mad Men knockoffs had to get so outlandish with their plots. Mad Men started off with Draper being in the advertising business but having a mysterious past. Playboy Club had the main character kill a mob boss in the first 5 mins and Pan Am has this crazy plot of one of the stewardesses working for MI6. Just kills the credibility of the show right from the start.

Is that over the top mentality that I hate, They throw so much at you without you getting a chance to really digest what is going on. The patient has really gotten thin with some of these new shows and at times I really don't fault them since its probably the networks wanting that strong rating each week. Its all about money in the end.

re: TV SHOW discussion thread (NO FUCKING SPOILERS please)

pan am was ok. if i ranked all the new shows, it would be somewhere in the middle. definitely not worth keeping up with, though.

really, i wouldn't say there's a single new shot out right now worth keeping it up with. maybe 2 broke girls or person of interest, but even they're mildly above average. the rest is trash to average or worse.

will be watching american horror story tomorrow. no expectations.

cool and smooth, that's how i play.

I guess the networks pressure for ratings does play a part in it. They don't give enough time for a show to set up a good plot at a decent pace and want the series premiers to have an impact. Networks expect immediate ratings from new shows which is unreasonable yet makes sense when you think about it from a business perspective. But there are more realistic ways to present a show. The writers these days just seem to go for the wrong choices.

Also, Playboy Club was a very wrong choice for a show set in the 60s. I don't want to sound sexist but how can you have a show preaching women's empowerment when it is about Playboy bunnies. NBC clearly expected the controversy around the show and the Playboy brand to draw in the viewers. Glad it didn't work.

Of all the new shows I will probably follow Homeland. Had a pretty good pilot. Will watch 2 Broke Girls and Person of Interest too as long as they don't start getting bad. Didn't like the latest ep of 2 Broke Girls so it might be the first to get the boot.

whoever thought of having a show like The Playboy Club on NBC would be such a good idea given the nature of content that would be feature should be fired. It was always going to fail no matter how much you tried to tame it.

@Kenny- Yes, its worth watching.

I highly recommend it. Short first season too so you might be able to catch up in time for the season 2 premiere.

Can someone give me some shows they've watched in the past few years? I still haven't watched a second of mad men, nor the walking dead. Any more really good ones I should try

Watched American Horror Story. it's not really scary, just weird. Seriously one of the set ups to a sex scene with Mcdorment and the hot miad was straight up out of a porno.
