Recommend a book!

As someone who is not a heavy reader (the last book i read was about 8 years ago), I am looking for a book to get me into reading once again. Can anybody recommend a decent choice. I am open to all options as well.

Re: Recommend a book!

Neil Gaiman - American Gods.

Not a series, Gaiman's a very good writer and it's a really interesting book. *obligatory game of thrones mention too* which is a Fantasy Series.

Re: Recommend a book!

If you like non-fiction books I'd recommend "Lowlife: Life in British Prisons with Drug Dealers, Gun Runners and Murderers" by Simon Eddisbury. No word of a lie it's one of the most interesting books I've ever read. It's about an English university who commits a minor crime and goes to prison and interviews all of the other prisoners about their lives. It will change the way you look at England trust me- guns are illegal over there but he meets arms dealers who were selling granades and machine guns with laser guided sights and all types of really extreme criminals and tells thier life stories from their childhood til their arrest. I'd definitely recommend it.

Re: Recommend a book!

Blood Meridian, No Country For Old Men, Suttree, The Road - all by Cormac McCarthy.

The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, White Jazz - all by James Ellroy, and in that order.

Nineteen Eighty Four, Animal Farm - both by George Orwell.

Fight Club, Survivor, Pygmy, Rant - all by Chuck Palahniuk.

I think those are the most recent books I've read or re-read. I get a lot of time with books commuting to work, and you can't really go wrong with any of them. Some of those may be difficult to follow or understand, though.

2. Robert Heinlein - Stranger in a Strange Land
3. Friedrich Nietzsche - Beyond Good and Evil
4. Søren Kierkegaard - Either/Or
5. Daniel Pinkwater - Borgel (I still love this one)
