I just thought it might be a nice little idea, get us all reading something new each fortnight or so.

Be pretty easy to set up, choose a book and just see who's in for reading it. May not be easy choosing the book, but we could always just have a choice of a few and see who wants to read what.

Seen the movie which takes away some excitement from the book, didn't know it was based on a book otherwise I would have read that first.

Have you read the "Autumn" series by David Moody? While it is more a zombie apocalypse type of story, but it is not written in the traditional living dead/eating brains sense. It is a different take on the genre and worth checking out. It is also set in the UK so you may be familiar with more details in the books.

Another author you may want to check out would be the earlier novels of Richard K. Morgan. The books "Altered Carbon", "Woken Furies" and "Broken Angels" are all set in humanity's distant and turbulent future and feature a cool anti-hero. His book "Market Forces" shows how the legal profession in the future can take a disturbing turn. And his book "Thirteen" (also published in other countries as "The Black Man") also is good at showing the kinds of things people are capable of doing to each other. Avoid his latest books. Trust me on that.
Great post man, will probably read every book there, starting with Pure which sounds great.

Same as me. I saw the movie, didn't really like it, wasn't blown away or anything, but felt like it would have been a much better read.

I can remember the ending but not sure if I'm that far along from watching it on whether reading it is a good move yet.

I'm enjoying The Strain, although not powering through as much as I did for the first 200 pages which I read in about an hour. Wanting to finish this series, then the graphic novels, then might pick up The Road.

I have A song of Ice and Fire series here but it's just so long, I read the entire Narnia series recently and the first Ice and Fire book is almost as long as it. I have the time, but not sure I have the patience to polish off such a large series of books.

Anyone want to give me a nudge and say it's worth it?

There's one or two books in this months SFX mag I'm looking to try out, too, and still wanting to finish The Last Policeman, as well as catch up with The Walking Dead comics and begin reading Chew.

A lot of reading to do over the next few weeks....

I just pre-ordered "The Three Count: My Life in Stripes as a WWE Referee" by Jimmy Korderas & Adam "Edge" Copeland. Quite excited to read it.

I can't believe I didn't think of this before, but the book series I would most highly recommend for you would be The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett. It starts with "The Warded Man" and is followed by "The Desert Spear". I just went to the library today and picked up the third book, "The Daylight War". I think there are going to be five books in the series.

The storyline is based around humanity surviving many years after a supernatural apocalypse. In fact I would recommend these books to anyone who is a fan of fantasy fiction.

I always wanted to try a book club but I read so stupidly fast that I get bored waiting for everyone else to finish and then it's no fun any more.

Then again, doing one online might work better, since it's going to be more at-your-own pace having to do everything via post anyways. I'm down. If I end up getting antsy, well, at least I tried.

Trying to think of stuff I haven't read yet that I'm interested in reading that other people might also be interested in reading. Hmm. Well shit. Do we even all read the same genres?

Definitely the biggest problem would be to get a genre we all enjoy, and mix it up.

Then, the second biggest problem would be time. It takes me about a week to read a book with my schedule, and I know others vary from a few days to a lot longer, so that could be a hiccup.

Thirdly, getting everyone to get the same book. We could read books that are classic and free, or we could try and get one popular enough guaranteed to be in a library. I know the majority are able to get their hands on most books, but not everyone would be able to.

Other than these 3 problems, we're good to go! haha

Between libraries, used bookstores, free ebooks on Amazon and whatnot, and straight up pirating, I'm pretty sure actually getting the books once we actually decide on them will be the least of our problems.

Who all is interested, though? We should give it a few more days, because not everyone who checks this thread comes on WF very often. We definitely need to keep a running tally, though. Anyone want to volunteer to keep a list just for now?

Well what I did for the Monday Night Was club was just create a separate thread with a poll in it, and link to it asking what people thought would be best.

I will do one for this, and just poll people who are up for it and then we can have the book club in this thread, along with all other book-y things.

We should probably keep the book club in its own separate thread so as to not annoy the fuck out of everyone else who uses this thread.
