I totally get what you mean, no worries. Stylistically I find that most are very similar and though a good plot can help that. Though I see what you mean with some borrowing from other movies.
Say have you seen A Tale of two sisters?

One of the reasons they all seem similar is because they're mostly derived from Japanese folklore where a lot of the same themes came from. Little girl with hair in the face, vengeful ghosts etc. Originality aside they're entertaining as all hell to watch and even some of the same scares will get ya more than once.
A Tale of two sisters is one of my favorites Asian Horrors along with Audition, Kairo, and Dark Water.

Yeah I remember reading about the archtype for all the ghosts, I love reading about Japanese folklore. All their tales are so interesting and crazy.
I really liked A tale of two sisters too, how do you think the American remake will do? I find that for whatever reason American filmmakers just can't seem to do justice to Asian films. But I'm hoping with Elizabeth Banks and Emily Browning as the film's leading ladies it'll be alright.

I didn't even know they were remaking it... After what they did to pulse I don't have high hopes. I probably won't watch it but it'll make what the Asian remakes usually make around 30-40 mil or so and give them more reason to remake more.

Deception- a film about problems revolving around a club called The List, which results to a womens disappearance among other things. Starring Hugh Jackman (The Prestige), Ewan McGregor (The Island), and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain). Let me start off by saying, I wanted to see this film because I am a pretty big fan of Hugh Jackman. While the acting was decent, i think the film was drainy, and could have been better by miles. I didn't expect too much from it anyways so i don't really feel disappointed. You should probably wait for this film to release on DVD.
5/10

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
The Forbidden Kingdom.
There were mixed expectations of the film because of the words "Jet Li", and "Jackie Chan". Granted, they are both capable of entertaining in martial arts flicks to the highest caliber.
A solid martial arts flick with a plot from old-school thrown straight into new-school. My problems with the film was the length of the film and the irrelevance/annoyance of the main character. Of course he wasn't irrelevant to the plot, but I never really appreciated his presence. And that is it. You could call the plot predictable, but in comparison, that's open for debate since most martial arts fantasy flicks are.
The acting was ok with nothing particularly bad except that teenager again! Martial arts was the real value of the film. The occasional humour can be seen as corny, but I was happy with it.
The costumes and scenery were incredible. I was very impressed with the use of CGI effects and how it related to the film. Knowing it is a fantasy, it was not overused in the slightest.
The only way I think anyone can see this as a particularly bad film, is to over-expect from it or let that annoying teenager get in the way.
Overall: 8/10. "Fans of the genre, take a peek"

Street Kings
Enjoyable but very predictable as the 'twist' in this movie has been done to death. Keeanu Reeves was pretty badass throughout the entire movie. I'd give the movie a 6.5/10

The commerical for that movie brought one question to my mind "who'd win in a fight ,Obi Wan Kenobi or Woverine".

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead:
Film is about a group of college film makers making a horror movie but when people start dying and turning into zombies they flee for a place of safety along the way documenting everything they encounter.
I didn't really know what to expect considering it's Blair Witch/Cloverfield style of setting. But it really was interesting. The whole message is "Are we worth saving?" and throughout the movie it documents how people and technology are so provident in today's society and there's conspiracy on the government trying to hide us about the "truth" behind the zombies saying it's not as bad as we perceive it. I really enjoyed it and for a zombie movie there's a good message in it on top of the beautiful bloody violence!
8.0-8.5/10

I'd go with Wolverine.
