Cloverfield
8.0/10
Really good. The camera work didn't bother me at all. To me, it really sorta felt like I was watching a real video from a camcorder and not a movie. It sucked me right in, and the Cloverfield monster was bad ass. This is definitely a movie to own on dvd, because I will most likely watch it again in the future.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
Nims Island- a film about a little girl and her father who live on an island. Problems arise as her father disappears at sea, so she emails an author named Alexandra Rover. Starring Abigail Bresnin (Little Miss Sunshine), Gerard Butler (300), and Jodie Foster (The Brave One). I think this film will only work well among really young kids, because I just could not enjoy it. First off, if Nim is in trouble and needs to email Alexandra consistently, why don't they email each other saying "Hey get MSN Messenger or something, we can reply quicker that way." It semed stupid that they kept emailing each other, even when it was needed so much without considering something easier. I also find the plot to be quite boring, though the acting wasn't bad. Save your money, and watch some other film.

Twister
Tornado's destroy shit, and there is some pretty bad dialouge, but for some reason I rather enjoy this movie. Its probably because of Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing the wacked out storm chaser and the cool special effects. Decent little popcorn movie.

The Gods Must Be Crazy
This is a movie from the early 80s about a bushman in Africa that finds a Coke bottle and it causes problems in his tribe so he decides he is going to throw it off the end of the world. Some have claimed this to be a very racist movie, but my wife, who lived as a missionary in rural Africa, said it is quite accurate. The movie is dumb though.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
Dick Tracy - Movie starring Warren Beatty, Al Pacino & Madonna. Weird casting call if you ask me. After stumbling on some poor and kid with a dead beat dad, Special Agent Detective Dick Tracy is hot on the new mob boss in town Big Boy (Pacino).
This is a mix between Beverly Hills Cop, the Untouchables & the Naked Gun. After watching Beatty in "Bugsy" and Pacino in his countless top notch performances, it's hard to watch this movie and not laugh out of pity or just plain weirdness.
The first time I laid eyes on the Dick Tracy story was through comic books, and boy did I love that yellow guy and the colorful bad guys that surrounded him. This movie adaptation should have been an animation's flick, but, since the animation wave of "Toy Story" hadn't passed on yet in the States, they chose real life actors to portray a seriously portrayed story that did not deliver on the big screen.
The color schemes and big names used for this production dragged this picture down the dirt in terms of nobleness. Still, if you were a long lost fan of that single comic book that came out God knows when, you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at this. The efforts put through in each persona's costume is worth it and, seeing that yellow trench coat jump around is quite something when you take away from the fact it's pretty boy Beatty under that neat hat.
I give this movie 5 Curve Balls out of 1o. (They don't call me LegendofBaseball for nuthin'!)

Ressurecting the Champ
Starring Josh Hartnett and Samuel L Jackson
Its about Hartnett being kind of in a slump and not finding right stories and then he finds "The Champ" (Jackson) and he decides to tell "The Champs" Story.
What a fantastic Film, Hartnett and Jackson had great Chemistry in the movie really really Terrific. One of the best movies I've seen in awhile.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
Phone (2002)
After a journalist begins getting threatening phone calls on her sex scandal story, she decides to change her number. With the new number comes very different and more terrorizing calls as she tries to unravel the mystery and origin of it.
Typical vengeful Asian ghost story. I don't know how many times I've seen hair coming out of a sink or a pale faced ghost with long black hair standing above someone's bed... But I know now not to expect very original ideas from these Asian horrors anymore and just focus on how well they're executed. And "Phone" did a great job in providing a chilling atmosphere, a good intriguing story, and plenty of scares to go around. The best part by far though is the little girl, who was "possessed" throughout the movie. It wasn't just the typical "scary little girl with hair in her face role" either, but actually lots of dialog/deranged behavior. Just an overall excellent performance by her. If you like Asian Horror this is right up your alley.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
Stop Loss- a film about a man who completes his term service in Iraq, only to find out hes been stop lossed and has to go back. It basically affects relationships, family, and his life. Normally I don't expect too much out of MTV films, but maybe I expected some more from this film. The acting was not bad, but many parts could have been improved. Through it all though, its not a bad film.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

This Is Spinal Tap
The 1984 Mockumentary of the fictitious rock band Spinal Tap. This movie is listed as the #1 "Cult Film" of all time and the funniest movie about rock and roll ever. The movie is funny and is very interesting. I don't think it was as good as it is hyped but it is still funny. There have been other cult movies that I have had to watch more than once to really enjoy, so I won't piss o this one.
