Forrest Gump

A great, great film that I haven't watched in a while. I used to think this film was overrated but I'm starting to come around to it more and more. Even as good as it is, I think Shawshank should have won the Oscar.

The Guardian- I had doubts about watching this film because it just didn't look interesting to me. But I would watch a film before calling it negative, so i checked it out. About a man who comes out of high school to become a coast guard and train under a legend. It was an ok film, the length of it was too long. I wouldn't recomend it to all, but if you wanted to check it out, go ahead I guess.

The Burning (1981)

A camp prank on the Janitor goes horribly wrong. After years of treatment, he returns to exact his revenge with a pair of Hedge Clippers.

Sound familiar? It should. It's a bit of a Friday the 13th ripoff, but in the horror genre it's done a lot so don't be turned away because of it. The acting in this is fairly descent including a small cameo from Holly Hunter, and a young Jason Alexander complete with a full head of hair lol. He actually has a semi-big role, and is very funny throughout. The pace in parts is kinda slow and it hurts the overall enjoyment, but there is enough killings/nudity/blood to keep you interested. Famed FX wiz Tom Savini, worked this movie so you know to expect some fantastic gore. There is one scene in particular which is just awesome. Here's a clip I found On YT, it's toward the end, but be warned it's a little graphic. HERE
An interesting tidbit, is that The Burning was actually Miramax's very first movie. All in all a good 80's classic slasher movie to add to the good ol' horror collection.

i just had myself a movie night so here it goes:

Vantage Point-very good thriller. if u pay attention, u wont wanna look away to find out what exactly is going on. There is one scene that may get annoying after a while because it is REPEATED time after time after time, but it's an important part of the plot so just keep watching, haha! overall, a very good movie and feinitely the best movie to go see in theaters right now cause quite frankly, most of the new releases are blah at the moment!
8/10

Juno-very entertaining movie...i like the girl's performance, very subtle and funny. she doesn't seem forced or any of the kind and she just flows with her character. Very mature movie and overall, ull have a good time checking this one out. Dont expect huge laughs or to cry, just expect maybe to smile at the end cause u say an enjoyable movie, lol.
8.5/10

No Country for old men-ok so i had to check this out cause it was the whole rave last year. Now let me just say this-if u wanna watch a movie just for the simple entertainment value and u dont really like enjoying analyzing different aspects of a film, u may not enjoy this one. Even though i liked it, i wouldnt say its great. The flow of the film is meant to be a bit slow, but i think it drags on a bit too much which is pretty tiring for a long film. Now the character of the main villain is very intriguing because he plays the role very well...u can just see the sadistic in him, but i wish we would have known a bit more on the character rather than just referring to him as a professional killer and that's that. As for tommy lee jones, i really dont see what the big praise is all about...he played an ok role and tbh, i think he did a better acting job in MIB....but like i said, overall the movie is pretty good and i would go check it out . The ending is subtle but it makes its point in referring to the name of the movie, which may leave a bad taste in some people's mouth, but it was the perfect ending for such a movie in my opinion....not the best the coens have done (Fargo is above this), but not bad.
7/10

gone baby gone-wow, the final twist in this i didn expect at all. Overall everything in the movie keeps u watching and theres no boring moments, but even though he did a good acting job, i think this role just doesnt fit casey affleck at all. He looks like a hardy boy out there tyring to solve a case, while everyone around him looks like real professionals. Not saying hes a bad actor, just doesnt fit this role in my opinion. Great movie!
9/10

cloverfield-eh...u pretty much get what was advertised. monster invades and someone is recording. I got pretty bored after a while. Not a bad film, just got kinda boring. It seems its only a good movie during the time of its release because of the big anticipation, but now that everyone knows the plot and the monster, its kinda boring really....
5/10

sicko-yes michael moore is known to be one sided, but at the end of the day, facts are facts. he leaves out facts that dont benefit his film, but still a very interesting film. Kinda sad really.
7/10

mr.brooks-wow, way better than i anticipated. i expected a movie with twists but this movie really had itself a twizzler of twists, to the point where it may actually be too many twists all in one film! interesting movie with a storyline that oddly, hasnt been explored before....and somehow, demi moore keeps looking more amazing in every film she makes. Definitely check this one out!

Gabriel

This is an Australian film that tells the story of an archangel who fights to bring light back to purgatory(a place where darkness rules) and save the souls of the city's inhabitants. Before I watch movies I have never heard of before I usually make my way to IMDb to see user comments. The comments where hit and miss with some saying the movie was horrible while other were saying it was a masterpiece. I guess this was also a low budget film but you could really not tell at any time. The action was limited but was used effectively. The plot was really interesting and moved along fairly well I thought. The acting was good with all the actors that I had never heard of before. It sorta resembled Constantine in ways so if you liked that film you shall probably like this as well. Not a masterpiece of any sort but I throughly enjoyed this film throughout and is definitely worth checking out.

The Untold Story (1993)

After some human remains wash up on shore, the police investigation leads to Wong Chi Hang, the owner of the 8 Immortals restaurant.

Another insanely sick and twisted movie that I've been meaning to see for a while now. There's almost 2 sides to this movie, 1. Is the bumbling often hilarious cops, that seem like they came out of a Police Academy movie.. And then the other side, which is comprised of grisly disgusting acts and unthinkable murders. The lead acting was actually really good by Anthony Wong, who plays the psychotic sadistic killer perfectly. Some of these scenes in here are almost unbearable, seriously... The sickest stuff you'll ever see in film, including a scene involving a family with young children.... This is actually based on true events so watching this stuff hits a little harder than usual. Is all I have to say after watching this... But it's definitely a movie I'll remember well after finishing.

Agreed, I think the whole consensus within the Academy was that Forrest Gump was more patriotic and, by default, they decided to go with this movie. As well as it being the performance of Tom Hanks being a better "feel-good" story than having a cast that seperated the work, like in Shawshank.

2 Fast 2 Furious - I hadn't watched that movie in a while and, even if the movie is always a bit redundant because of the easy plot and storyline development I'm always enthralled by the great action scenes with these fantabulous fast cars. The performances in the movie aren't worth mentioning because they are but okay and not the center piece of what this movie is all about.

I'd recommend this movie for anyone just wanting to sit back, relax and enjoy a few thrills here and there. If you're a cars (mods) fans, that's a plus for you, although the addition of muscles cars in this second installment in the series is quite welcomed.

All in all, you cannot be disappointed with this movie. It's not your Gus Van Sant classic, but it's not your Andy Dick distruction of the term "picture". Rent it. If you can get it cheap off the net or in your local video club, buy it.

LoB, I agree. Plus, Shawshank didn't become the cult hit it has become until arriving on DVD. Not alot of people watched it in the theater which is a shame. I would LOVE to see that movie on the big screen.

O Brother Where Art Thou

This is my favorite Coen Brother movie not named Fargo. And on any given day I might like this one more than Fargo. It's just one of those types of movies that I can watch over and over and over and over again. I could watch this movie once a day and never get tired of it...

Shawshank is a serious contender for best movie ever made IMO, better than Gump for sure and Gump was a fantastic movie.

Road House
Swayze, Sam Elliot, ass kicking, Terry Funk....
