Desperado

This is a film that I really didn't look forward to watching until my sister actually made me and my god I loved it!

It's a mid-nineties movie by Robert Rodriguez staring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Joaquim de Almeida among others such as Cheech Marin, Quentin Tarantino and so on and so on.

It's a revenge movie that promises lots of violence and delivers. I can't get enough of this movie, especially the dialog. I absolutely love it.

8 out of 10 *guilty pleasure rating. 10 out of 10 *

Vantage Point- a film about a president being shot, and then different points of view that put the pieces of the puzzle together to solve the problem. This film stars Dennis Quaid, Forrest Whitaker, and Sigourney Weaver. The film is gripping from beginning to end, an intense thriller that in my opinion, delivers. So many twists and turns in this film, you have to remember to keep your eyes on the film, or you will miss out on something. I recommend this film to everyone.

There will be Blood

Directed and written by Paul Anderson (Magnolia) this story revolves around Daniel Plainview, a struggling silver miner, who rises to prominence as a ruthless oil prospector.

FINALLY I saw this movie and I wasn't disappointed one bit. The acting is solid by the cast especially Paul Dano who was superb as the leader of the church. But without question this movie IS Daniel Day Lewis, he commands each and every scene he's in. A truly incredible performance worthy of the Oscar. I didn't think I would see a better performance than Emile Hirsch from Into the Wild who was snubbed big time, but DDL certainly does top it in every way. The cinematography was excellent, the dialogs amazing, and I believe the strongest part of the film. With all that said, this wasn't a perfect film by any means, the main downside I believe was the soundtrack which sounded so out of place and downright annoying in parts, I know they were trying to make something innovative that flowed with the scenes but I don't think it worked well. Aside from that minor flaw, this movie says alot about the nature of humanity, his inherent selfishness, his strive for wealth, and his desire to kill God. All remarkably poignant and well delivered points. Great movie, but I still believe No Country was slightly better and should get the nod tonight.

Bardem looks like a lock, but I wouldn't be shocked if Hal Holbrook or even Tom Wilkinson take it. But yeah, best pic and director for sure.

La Terza madre (2007)

An ancient urn is found in a cemetery outside Rome. This makes the city go nuts with all types of violent crimes, rape, murder, theft, etc. These are occurring because Mater Lacrimarum (Moran Atias), the last of three powerful witches is trying to usher in a new age of witches. Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento) who has supernatural abilities herself, is the only person left to prevent the Mother of Tears from destroying Rome.

The last of Dario Argento's trilogy, the first 2 being Suspiria 1 of my all-time favorite horror movies, and Inferno which was also pretty good. Yikes, this has to be collectively some of the worst acting I've ever seen. Asia Argento, Dario's daughter is unbelievably bad, as is everyone else. But the acting aside, I really enjoyed this low budget horror/mystery/thriller movie. The Gore is fantastic. Over the top graphic disturbing stuff. That really made the movie for me. Also the score is brilliant, very remenisant of Suspiria. The pacing was alright, the ending a bit of a let down and the cgi kinda sucked at times. Which is too be expected for the low budget it had. BUT i was entertained throughout, mostly due to the awesomeness of the deaths in all their gruesome glory. Not for people with weak stomachs that's for sure

The Brave One

About a woman (Jodie Foster) who's fiancee is beaten to death and she herself is left for dead after a vicious attack in Central Park. She then out of fear gets a gun to protect herself but finds that a part of her on the inside is out for vengeance and she becomes a vigilante. Terrance Howard of Hustle and Flow plays a cop out to stop her, yet sympathizes with the Vigilante's motives.

Pretty good flick with a strong performances from both Foster and Howard, but not the most memorable movie either, worth a watch though.

My Rating - B
