The Reaping:

Plot outline from the Yahoo! movie section,

Katherine Winter doesn't believe in miracles--she believes in facts. A former minister, Katherine turned her back on the cloth after losing her young daughter and husband while doing missionary work in the Sudan, and now seeks answers through scientific investigation rather than prayer. As a university professor, she has become the foremost debunker of supposed miracles, called to sites all over the world to investigate weeping statues, wall stains resembling saints and palms that bleed. And so far, there is no divine mystery she hasn't solved. But when small-town schoolteacher Doug Blackwell seeks her help with a series of bizarre occurrences the townspeople believe to be sent by God, Katherine and her partner Ben come to learn that sometimes miracles can be treacherous, and the line between faith and superstition is dangerously thin. Hidden among the woods and swamplands of Louisiana, Haven is a town where the rules of reason seem to have been rewritten. A child has died and the river has turned to blood, which is only the beginning of what appears to be a revisiting of the Biblical ten plagues upon the town. For the first time in her professional career, Katherine can't explain these phenomena with science. The townspeople believe an enigmatic child named Loren McConnell has brought God's wrath to their doorstep, but what they see as a harbinger of evil, Katherine sees as a lost child needing her help. The more she is drawn into the dark heart of the mystery, the more Katherine discovers her own role in a conspiracy that threatens to shroud the world in darkness.

I personally thought it could of definatley been better but aside from some of the flaws its a pretty enjoyable movie if your into biblical thrillers. Swank didn't really fit the part as she usually knocks movies out of the park this one seemed just on the ok side.

There Will Be Blood

The best film of 2007 besides No Country for Old Men. Daniel Day-Lewis deserves an Oscar for his role as a silver miner who became an oil tycoon in turn-of-the-century California, and Paul Dano is good as a preacher who meets Lewis when he is looking for oil. The movie's a little slow in the middle, but it's definitely made up for at the end.

9/10

Daniel Day-Lewis deserves the Oscar because it's by far the best performance of the year but I doubt he'll get it. They don't like giving two Oscars to one person. They are pretty anal like that. Day-Lewis already has an Oscar which is what will hold him back from getting this one more than likely. And thats a shame.

I haven't seen There will be blood yet sadly but if he doesn't win it, I believe Viggo will get it, he was great in Eastern Promises. Personally I think Emile Hirsch should have been nominated for Into the Wild, that's the best male performance I've seen all year.

As great as Mortensen was in Eastern Promises and Clooney was in Michael Clayton I can't see anyone else but Day-Lewis getting the Oscar. It's the type of performance that they love, and they'll want to get There Will Be Blood something since I think No Country will win best picture and director(which it should).

Just watched this yesterday as well. It was a good movie, but I was kind of bored and confused at parts. Might have to watch it again. Ending wasn't as great as I hoped either. 6/10 from me.

The Nines

Hmmm, you can't really say what it's about or you'll give away the story so let me just say it's the type of movie that you'll enjoy if you liked Mulholland Drive, Donnie Darko, The Machinist, etc. While not as good as those, it does a fairly good job keeping you guessing until the very end. Ryan Reynolds proves that he's not just a comedy actor, he can take a more serious approach as he did in the Amityville remake. He plays his role very well. The acting was spot on by the rest of the cast too. There were a couple problems I found. There was an overuse of really out-of-place sounding music throughout and just overused montage like musical moments in general. But that's more of a personal bias rather than a problem with the film itself. Also the ending explains everything under the sun so it wraps up a little too neatly. These types of movies always work better when the viewer is left to interpret the meaning or ending themselves. But overall A solid and entertaining movie worth a watch for sure.

7.5/10

I hope you're right because Day-Lewis absolutely deserves it. No question about that. But the Oscar voters are very weird.. like I already mentioned they don't like giving two Oscars. Brando has two Oscars and if they give Day-Lewis a second one that would be like saying Day-Lewis is as good as Brando. Weird thinking on their part but that's how they do it. If Day-Lewis doesn't get it now you'll know why.

I wouldn't be surprised if Depp gets it this year. Alot of times it's a career award anyway and Depp has yet to get one.

Edit: btw, Clooney wont get it either.. He already has one as well.

As long as Atonement doesn't win best Motion Picture I will be content. Don't get me wrong, its a good film, but I wouldn't call it the best film of the year.
