Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

Inception - 10/10.

Didn't half twist my brain in all sorts of knots and required a bunch of rewinding over parts but when I got/understood it, I found it amazing. Very original and visually stunning. Nice flow to it aswell.

Hang em High - 7/10. It was okay. expecting much more, dragged abit, but for the most part was good, although quite hard to get into.

For some reason I hated Inception, everyone had told me it was awesome but then when I watched it I just didn't get the hype. I rated it around 6.5/10 but not much higher.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

@Just1988 - Noticed The Strangers amongst your recently watched list. I saw it for the first time a few months ago and thought that it was pretty darn chilling and particularly loved the ending. Did you not spend the entire second act though puzzled as to some of the dumb-ass decisions made by the lead couple. That for me really dragged down what was otherwise a quality film.

Last thing I watched was Stir of Echoes which I recently purchased on VHS. Noticed a few eye rolling contrivances second time around but still really enjoyed it. Miles better than The Sixth Sense which it got kind of buried under at the time of its release. - 8/10

The Strangers is the one with Liv Tyler isn't it? God I hated that film. I havn't seen a genuinely good horror film since The Orphanage.

Laura (1944)

Good noir whodunit. Good acting for the most part, and kept me guessing who really had done the murder til the very end.

It has a shit loads of plot holes though, which makes me wonder, if this movie came out now, it will probably be slated as sloppy by most people. But its seen as a classic

A Sleepaway Camp review with no mention of the ending? Dear god.

Anyway:

Watched this on Sky Movies then looked it up online and burst out laughing at the cover, that makes it look like some high octane thriller when in fact it's a slightly pretentious indy drama. Sure there's a gun fired a lot in the movie but it's the exact same moment being repeated over and over.

The film's about a shooting in a diner, just a random shooting where 3 people die and one is injured, the film then focuses on the reactions of 5 main characters following the events: Kate Beckinsale's redneck waitress who could have saved lives if she'd charged her phone, Forest Whitaker's driving instructor who just after getting diagnosed with cancer manages to survive getting shot in the neck and decides to go to Vegas, Dakota Fanning who's dad was killed holding her hand and her boyfriend and Guy Pearce, the doctor who held the door open for the gunman.

It's... decent, a bit dull, hella depressing with some good acting. If the movie had just been 2 hours of Forest Whitaker's Vegas exploits I would have fucking loved it though.

6/10

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

Any Robert Redford fans?

I just seen the Redford directed movie The Conspirator and absolutely loved it. Now my opinion may be biased because because I'm a Redford fan and also a James McAvoy fan and also a fan of the Civil War and that whole time period during the mid-late 1800s. Before I seen the movie I figured it would be a 7/10 or 8/10 and after watching it I'd have to say 9/10. As good as I thought this movie was, I still can't decide which Redford directed movie I like better... The Conspirator or A River Runs Through It.

As for movies which Redford acted in, I love Spy Game with Brad Pitt but my favorite has to be a tie with the two classics... The Sting & The Great Gatsby. I recently re-watched The Clearing which stars Robert Redford, William DaFoe, and Helen Mirren and it reminded me of how good it was. I recommend this movie for any Redford or DaFoe fans.

Yeah I see what you're saying but I just put it down to the writers following the generic horror format of always splitting up when they should be sticking together etc.

I didn't wanna give any spoilers, if I mentioned the ending then it would ruin an already bad film, ha.

I went to watch X-Men First Class last night. It was a pretty solid superhero film but I thought it was a little lame how the super-powers managed to get stronger when certain mutants became bad guys. Overall it's probably the best superhero film I've seen.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Halowws part 1 - average, seems like a lot of it seemed like it wasn't needed and they could of just put the important parts at the start of the other one to make it one film.

Super 8

Not a fan. It's a decent watch at best. It was not what I expected it to be...in a bad way. I had no clue this movie revolved around kids. It was kinda like The Goonies (yes that's giving it FAR too much credit) meets a giant ET.

The ending is terrible.
