Up! - Pixar and Studio Ghibli continue to be leading lights in well rounded animated movies. This was an absolute gem. The animation style and quality was coupled with simply fantastic story telling to create a powerful mix of drama and comedy. The kind of movie people of all ages can watch to be affected and amused by. Instant classic.

Knight and Day

Starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz

It's a pretty fun watch. It was about what I expected it to be. I think Cruise and Diaz work really well together...but it's hard for someone not to work well with Diaz. I love her style and personality.

Hard Candy

Movie about a 30 something photographer (Patrick Wilson) who meets a 14 year old girl (Ellen Page) over the internet, takes her out for a date and ends up getting way more than he bargained for. Pretty good thriller movie but made me feel kinda uncomfortable at the same time, and really well acted (movie was pretty much just Page & Wilson).

7.5/10

CARS (2006)

Cocky & selfish racecar Lightning McQueen gets lost on the way to his big championship race. He winds up in a lost town where he learns the values of friendship & that winning isn't everything.

This is generally regarded as Pixar's weakest film, but to me, that is sort of like being the worst Navy Seal. Even if you are, you are still pretty bad ass. I like how they were able to take Cars and make them into believable characters with feelings & emotions. The movie was also funny, and maybe its because I'm a sports fan, but I really liked the ending. Its not Pixar's best, but its a very enjoyable film all the same.

8.5/10

RATATOUILLE (2007)

A rat named Remy has dreams & aspirations of becoming the greatest chef in France. To do that, he joins up with a human being that he can instruct to make culinary masterpieces that soon capture the attention of all the top Food Critics in Paris.

I never thought Pixar would ever top Finding Nemo, but they certainly did with this film which is my personal favorite out of the Pixar library. Remy has to overcome social, financial, & cultural boundaries to live his dream, and its a very easy story to like & respect. Hell, its all about living the American Dream....in Paris. Ok whatever. I also loved how every character in the movie was a little eccentric like food critic Anton Ego, head Chef Skinner, & basically the entire cooking staff. It filled the movie with plenty of humor and zaniness that only complimented the story. Its a nice story of accomplishment, and a very heartwarming & funny film.

10/10 (I'd go higher if I could)

Toy Story 3

I don't want to give away too much as it may spoil it for some people so I'll just say, this is the best Toy Story out of the 3, I originally had doubts but my doubts were put to sleep during this film, I loved every single second of it. Such a great way to end the trilogy. Overall the film gets a massive 10/10 I would give it way more if I could, it is so worth watching, and once again Disney/Pixar make it suitable for Adults & Children. Though I would argue this film is more for the generation who grew up with Andy. However, everyone will love it. Please do what you can to go watch this film. By far the best film I've seen in years. Literally.

Just picked up BLACK DYNAMITE on DVD. Expect a review soon. Anybody see it yet? Reminded me of a mix between The Naked Gun & Undercover Brother.

In the Mouth of Madness

"Do you read Sutter Cane?"

One of John Carpenter's best horror movies, In the Mouth of Madness is a deviously and masterfully twisted and bizarre tale, as a private investigator descends into a world that may or may not be real. The PI is hired to find the missing Sutter Cane, a horror novelist. In the tradition of H.P. Lovecraft, our unwitting hero is not ready for the insanity that is about to be unleashed. In the Mouth of Madness gets a high recommendation from me.

Black Dynamite:

Black Dynamite, a former CIA agent, vows to clean up the streets after his brother is killed by a shady organization.

Think RIDICULOUS! Reminds me of a mix between The Naked Gun & Undercover Brother. All the jive talkin', badass fighting on top of a hilarious 70s soundtrack makes the laughs constant. For what it's worth, it lives up to everything and more. It's cheesy, it's slap sticky & never has a dull moment. Do yourself a favor and grab some nun-chucks, pour a glass of malt liquor and get ready to dig it.

Overall Grade: B+

I might check it out. Or I might just watch Black Belt Jones or any Shaft movie and laugh my ass off at that.

Knight and Day- a film about a man who meets a girl on a plane, and her finding out that he is a wanted man. Starring Tom Cruise (Valkyrie), Cameron Diaz (Shrek Forever After), and Peter Sarsgaard (Orphan). The plot sounds a lot like The Killers, which came out recently as well. This one is better though. I have a knack for watching Cameron Diaz films, because I find her attractive. There are moments that are nice and funny, and it has substantial action in it, so it never runs out of steam. Probably not going to be one of the most standout films of the summer, but it has its entertainment value.

7/10

Grown Ups- a film about four friends who reunite at a lakehouse, after the death of their high school basketball coach. Starring Adam Sandler (Funny People), Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop), Chris Rock (Death at a Funeral), David Spade (The Benchwarmers), and Rob Schneider (You Don't Mess With The Zohan). I'm not a fan of all the said comedian actors, but I think they worked together very well. I've been reading some really bad reviews for this film, but honestly its pretty good. It has its great funny moments, even from Schneider who has some horrible funny moments in his past. Only big problem there is with the film, is that there really isn't a plot that serves for buildup, but rather a relaxing comedy throughout. Overall, if your looking for a relaxing comedy this one is good.

7.5/10
