Twilight Zone: The Movie -

When I saw that this was under "Free Movies" on my OnDemand I couldn't resist checking it out as I am a huge fan of the classic series. All the stories are directed by different directors which gave it a variety. Was pretty amusing for a late-night flick. Nothing too spectacular but cool homage to The Twilight Zone.

I saw the movie a while back as well. I was impressed with the first one with the bigot who experiences real life racism situations. And I also liked the one with the weird boy with powers. I don't really watch much twilight zone, but enjoyed the film.

Capitalism: A Love Story- a film directed by Michael Moore, where the negatives of capitalism are shown. I was a pretty big fan of Fahrenheit 9/11, and Sicko. Especially liked Sicko because it was riveting to see the health care crisis in the United States. I have to say this film was the least best of the three. But still it was a decent documentary, that once again fulfills its purpose. That being, to raise questions and concerns. And to get us to sort of rise up and demand better treatment. A fan of his other films may enjoy this film, but I can't guarantee the same for everybody.

This is It- a collection of footage taken from what was proposed to be Michael Jackson's last concert series, before his untimely death. I was a moderate fan of Michael Jackson before his death, as I had a handful of songs on my iPod. Like most people I became a much bigger fan of his after his death. I must say it was something special seeing Jackson looking so good on stage, knowing his life would end shortly after. Its a good tribute to a pop icon, which thoroughly shows how hard the man was working at making a comeback. MJ fan's would definitely appreciate this film. I for one found it to be a great memorable experience.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3: Decent story, really enjoyed Washington's character. Travolta brings new meaning to the word 'mother fucker'. It's about what you'd expect from the trailers. I need to catch the original sometime.

Snatch

Over the weekend I watched Snatch. A boat load of characters that include Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Daniel Farrerra... anyway with multible characters all their stories inter-twine at the end, and it really turns out to be a great film. Anyway the backstory is about a 82 karat diamond, that is very vaulable to all the characters... and how each struggle to get it.. but also once they have it struggle to keep it. Truly a great film, and I really enjoyed the performance out of Brad Pitt who plays a gypsy. If you can't stand accents (British, Irish, a few other weird ones) then don't watch it but if you can I would say def watch this movie. Its an old one made in the 90's I think but a good one to me.

Paranormal Activity:

A little over hyped, but for a movie made with almost no money, it had a good creepy feel to it. Well done, and the characters were actually quite believable.

A Christmas Carol- a film about the classic Charles Dickens novel, about Ebenezer Scrooge and how ghosts visit him to make him appreciate life and Christmas. Featuring the voices of Jim Carrey (Yes Man), Gary Oldman (The Unborn), and Cary Elwes (Georgia Rule). Directed by the same guy who brought you The Polar Express. I think the animation in this film was spot on, and I enjoyed it because it was pretty much a faithful adaptation to the original work. Although I was expecting something on the level of The Polar Express, it didn't quite reach it. But all in all, a good film and the right way to kick in the holiday season.

The Box- a film about a couple who receive a box, in which if they push the button they receive one million dollars at the cost of a person's life. Starring Cameron Diaz (My Sister's Keeper), James Marsden (27 Dresses), and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon). From the director of Donnie Darko and Southland Tales. I gotta say the trailer for this film is misleading, as it is a bizarre and weird film throughout. It didn't come as too much of a shock, seeing as Southland Tales made little to know sense to me. Not a bad film at all really, you just gotta suspend your beliefs a little bit. Seeing Cameron Diaz in a film is always a plus for me.

Wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. But it had that creep factor. Pretty good movie.

"The Deadly Tower" aka Sniper with Kurt Russell from 1975.

TV Movie about the infamous Charles Whitman, former marine, who shot up a ton of people at the University of Texas. An underrated, cult classic. Long before Hollywood developed a taste for movies where people went postal and shot up a lot of people this movie did it first. People are no longer shocked anymore by shootings but when Whitman did it, it was a shocker.

The movie takes a couple of liberties with the original facts but delivers the more important facts like Whitman's breakdown, his acquisition of firearms which are laughable like today's standards, the terrible security that the university had, and his overall use of his military background to carry out his massacre.

Kurt Russell was already a budding young star but this movie really put him on the map as an actor to be taken seriously. He previously done a lot of roles with good boy type image. His portrayal of the postal Charles Whitman hits the mark. You can see his transition here and it's not surprising that he would go to be play cold blooded guys in his movies.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

The MacManus Brothers, the famous vigilante killers that took down various crime lords in Boston, are living a simple life in Ireland with their father. However, they are framed for the murder of a priest in an attempt to draw them out of hiding, and it isn't long before Connery & Murphy leap back into action to challenge whoever called them out and find out why.

Simply put, if you loved Boondock Saints, you'll love the sequel. It kind of suffers from what I call "Sequelitis" in that it copies the first movie in a lot of ways, so it lacks in originality. However, the cast is great, at times the film is hilarious, and of course it has that action packed bad assery that the first film is known for. Its only playing in select cities so if you have a theater near you that's playing it and you loved the first movie, then definitely go check it out.
