Dances with Wolves (1990): A lot of people hate this film, but I thought it was pretty damn good, bit long though. Kevin Costner's eye for directing is brilliant, every scene is filled with so much detail, and the set pieces like the buffallo hunt are brilliantly directed. The acting is pretty good not great. Overall a film I reccomend, 8/10
Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980) Summary: Rainer Werner Fassbinder directed this 16 hour film that fallows Franz Biberkopf after his release from prison in 1920s Germany. Although Biberkopf wants to remain straight, the poor economy ultimately drives him back to a life of petty crime and violence. Based on Alfred Doblin's acclaimed novel, this movie documents a man's descent into depravity and insanity, and sets the stage for the emergence of the Nazi party.
Review: Finally finished this 16 hour masterpiece that I have been watching over the course of 2 weeks. For its length, I actually haven't been bored at all. I think it also helped when it was broken up into 13 episodes and a 2 hour epilogue that is a pure mindbender. I loved how conventional the narrative was for the first 13 hours and how it just took you on a ride and then the epilogue hits you like a sledgehammer with its surrealism. One of the best film watching experiences that I've ever had.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind **** 1/4
The Last Tango in Paris **** 1/4
Down to You - F (horrible, horrible film)
Nosferatu (1922) - ****
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra- a film where the G.I. Joe unit must try to stop the Cobra unit from unleashing deadly weapons of destruction. Starring Channing Tatum (Fighting), Sienna Miller (Stardust), and Marlon Wayans (Little Man). Ever since I saw the trailer, I knew this film would suck. And it sure as hell did. Yeah the action is there, but the story wasn't too impressionable, and it was too jumpy. Channing made an okay lead man, but Rachel Nichols really did a terrible role. Cheesy lines, cookie cutter plot, and not so funny comedy. Best parts of the film was seeing Sienna Miller looking hot, and Nichols running on a treadmill, scantily clad. I wish this film would fizzle in the box office, so there would be no hope for a sequel.
Paper Soldiers - A urban crime dramadey about a burglary crime syndicate. The film features the success and the lows of people that have chosen this lifestyle. The film features Kevin Hart (Scary Movie 4), Beanie Sigel (State Property), Michael Rapaport (Higher Learning) and a cameos from Hip-Hop mogul Damon Dash, and Rapper Jay-Z.
I give the film a solid
This film isn't Gone With The Wind but it's a hood classic.
Location: Lansdowne, PA. Right next to Philadelphia a.k.a the home of It's Always Sunny In Philly. 'Motownphilly's back again. Doin' a little east coast swing.'
Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
(500) Days of Summer.
You know for the whole formula that romantic comedy movies always end up taking, I didn't find the story of this so predictable or lame and going in my mind was set to expect that. But I thought it was a pretty fine movie. The approach they went for in this feels more realistic at that with the story that is told and it's pretty enjoyable.
8/10 for the movie.
10/10 for my girlfriend who went to choose this movie over us watching G.I. Joe (kind of glad). And having us both come out liking a movie.
Howl's Moving Castle-Directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I was in the mood to see something by him. Again him and that studio are just mavericks in animated movies. Everything they do has qualities to appeal to children but also contains considerable complexity and mature storytelling. What I notice about Studio Ghibli is that their movies are all very heartwarming. Magic. This one gets a 9/10 from me.
Th Collector- a film about a robber who's attempt to rob a house, is met with a greater threat of a dangerous murderer. Starring Josh Stewart, Madeline Zima, and Andrea Roth. Saw this sometime last week but I forgot to review it. It is an okay gorey film, expected more but for what it was worth it was entertaining. You wont find anything new here, and won't benefit from this film. But hey, it killed time,
A Perfect Getaway- a film about a couple on a honeymoon, and how they learned that they may be the targets of a vicious murderous couple. Starring Timothy Olyphant (Stop-Loss), Steve Zahn (Strange Wilderness), and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil: Extinction). I predicted the twist and end of the film 25 minutes into the film. But other than that it was entertaining. Steve Zahn did a good job in his role. Although mostly predictable, it provided for a great time and its a good one to see with your friends.
