Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

Raging Bull

The film is about boxer Jake Lamotta (Robert DeNiro.) it follows him through his life, his rise to becoming world champion, and his eventual downfall in boxing and in life in general.

This film is absolutely brilliant in every sense of the word. Truly one of the best films ever made. The story is great, and although Lamotta is a very paranoid and dislikable character, Scorsese manages to make you care. The Cinematogrophy is brilliant especially during the fight scenes, which are the best boxing scenes in cinema history. Joe Pesci provides support as Lamotta's brother, and as always is great in the role of sidekick and back up. What can be said of DeNiro's performance? Stunning! The best performance of his career, and one of the finest acting performances in all of film. Along with the first two Godfather movies, this is the best movie from the 70's.

A classic, up there with the all time greats in cinema history.

10/10

My sentiments exactly. I wouldn't even give Scary Movie 1 a nine, and that was the best one.

But to each his own.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

God, all of the scary movies, epic movies, date movies all of those type of spoof films are a disgrace to cinema tbh.

Death note 1 & 2 (1 big film split into 2 films due to the length)

Story about a high school student, Light Yagami, who finds a notebook, when a name is written inside, the person whose name it is dies. Light uses it to rid the world of criminals and to become the 'god' of the new world. The police unit assigned to finding this mysterious killer is led by L, the world greatest detective who is also a teenager and only eats sweets, and Light's father. A mastermind struggle between achieveing justice or senseless murder, leaving the viewer making up their own mind whether Light is the hero or the villain.

Brilliant films, so cleverly written with 1 of the best endings that you just don't see happening. L is easily in the top 3 of coolest characters of all time aswell.

9/10 - Biased opinion because Death Note is the only manga i have ever read, so I was always going to love the films. Not looking forward to the american remake

I think, "disgrace" is too strong of a word but I've not seen one that I'd give above a 2.5 out of 10.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS

Wow, just wow. About a young child called Bruno whose father is a Nazi Camp Commandant and lives on the edge of a massive concentration camp. As the entire movie’s seen through a child’s eyes, it’s often desperately uncomfortable to watch as he doesn’t understand what’s going on, doesn’t know why he has to hate the Jews, and thinks the concentration camp is a “farm”. He meets a young boy while out exploring by the camp’s boundaries – “the boy in the striped pyjamas” – and actually envies him for, what he sees, being able to “play” all day and wear “pyjamas”. Gradually, the two form a close friendship, both still retaining their innocence and not comprehending the horrors of what’s going on around them, and it all leads to a terrible and moving climax. Sub-plots include Bruno’s mother slowly realising that her husband is murdering thousands, Bruno’s sister becoming a Jew-hating, Aryan, master-race spouting Hitler Youth member, and the family’s young Nazi driver bullying the family’s Jewish servant/slave.

The film wonderfully captures the exhilaration of youth, the evil of the Nazis {sometimes, I just wanted to throw things at the screen I was so angry}, while also balancing it out with shades of grey: the mother is no Jew sympathiser, but objects to their murder. The Commandant protects his anti-Nazi mother and is a staunch family man, the bullying young Hitler-fanatic driver helps his anti-Nazi father escape Germany. But most of all, I feel, this film captures the idea that only children, untouched by cynicism, can only see the real truth and possibility in the world.

8/10.
