This is considered a classic by a lot of people, it is on Eberts great movies, and i found it to be a very interesting movie. I liked it, then i didnt, then i did, then i didnt, but by the time it was over, i really liked it. It centers around two pretty vain people, one of them just wants to be like Humphrey Bogart, one of them kinda just wants to live in their own little cutesy world and is very indecisive and unsure about her relationship with the other main character. It is quite interesting to watch, there will be quite a few who will find it boring but if you enjoy film noirs, it is recommended for you.
This is a brilliant little film. I really dig the main character. Since you liked this one I'm gonna recommend 400 Blows. It's different but another great film from the french new wave.

Quarantine (2008)

A news reporter doing a story about the local fire department becomes trapped along with the residents of an apartment building while a viral outbreak wreaks havoc on the people inside.

I usually try and skip remakes especially of movies I really love, and I loved REC, but to this movie's credit it really delivers and stays VERY true to the original. The scares are effective and the claustrophoic nature of the film works. Acting wise it's alright, Jennifer Carpenter (Exorcism of Emily Rose) does a good job as the hysterical woman and the rest of their cast play their roles well. Overall not quite as good as REC but as far as remakes go you won't see too many better than Quarantine.

Wednesdays Movies

The Terminator [re-watch] - **** (9/10)
- 1984 action classic starring Arnold Da Govna, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, and directed by James Cameron. It centers around Sarah Connor, as a man comes from the future to rescue her from a Terminator sent to kill her, because her son is going to be the man who fights to save us from the hostile takeover from robots. This is an awesome action flick, another example of Cameron being king of directing the action flick (Aliens and T2 are just two more great examples). It is just constant pursuing, as it builds each and every time the Terminator gets close to killing off his target. And despite only saying a few words, Arnie gives one badass performance.

Truck - *** (7/10)
- 2008 Korean (i think) thriller. A man needs money to pay for his daughter's surgery, and ends up getting caught in some deep crime scandal, and is told the only way to the money he needs (by the next day) is to drive twelve bodies out of the area and have them tossed away somewhere. This is a solid watch, with some pretty compelling stuff, and also a very sympathetic main character, as you really see him struggle to do what he needs to do because of his moral state. The story is kind of jaded, and it gets into that territory of being a little overwrought, but overall good watch.

The Good, the Bad, and the Weird - **** (9/10)
- 2008 Korean Western. This movie is GREAT, and makes it onto my list of 2008 top movies at #11, just missing the top ten by a hair. This is seriously a freaking FUN movie. in a homage to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, we have three main characters (a good one, a bad one, and a weird one), all ending up with their lives intertwined due to the search and capture of a treasure map. The characters are extremely well done, and it has some really sweeping action scenes, like a HUGE chase scene on horses with about five different groups, everyone gunning for the other. Its that great kind of Western that just never stops chugging, and the best part is by the end, you and your friends will probably all be rooting for a different guy, because they each have their own extremely cool quirks. It is a very fun, intense adventure into the realm of foreign westerns.

cool and smooth, that's how i play.

True Lies
a 1994 action movie staring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tom Arnold. This movie is one of my favorite movies. Even though its an Action flick, there is a ton of funny stuff in this movie, and i think thats what makes it enjoyable, as it doesnt take itself to serious like alot of action movies do.

Rating: 9/10

Thursdays Movies

Rosemary's Baby - ***1/2 (8/10)
- 1968 horror classic starring Mia Farrow and directed by Roman Polanski. A married couple move into a new apartment and plan to start a family as the woman gets pregnant, and they make friends with the older family next-door and the others they converse with. Strange things begin to happening, as injuries to others arise (benefitting them). It becomes pretty clear this is not a normal pregnancy. This is a great, creepy horror movie, as it steadily builds the tension expertly, and really gives you the chills towards the end. This is not that scare and scream kind of movie, its just the one that really gets into your head, and works down as it builds up suspense.

Baadasssss! - ***1/2 (8/10)
- 2004 half-documentary half-fictionalized account on the making of the film "Sweet Sweetbacks Badass Song" that turned out to be one of the most popular independent films in the 1970s, and really was one of the most popular blaxploitation movies ever. This movie does a pretty good job of showing the hardships of pulling off such a movie with practically no financial backing, the struggle it took to even get it out there, and its a pretty great watch to see as he does everything that is possible to make it successful.

Sick Nurses - * (1/10)
- 2007 Asian horror starring hot asian chicks. After all the nurses end up smothering the life of one of the other nurses after a doctor orders it, 7 days later she comes back with a vengeance. Yeah, its an incredibly stupid premise. Nurses murder one of their own because the doctor orders it (they were dating and he didn't want to anymore). Along with that the execution is stupid, as nothing is scary, its all just really bad and laughable, and the big pay-off twist is even worse. This is one of the worst attempts at a horror film ever, a terrible let-down.

cool and smooth, that's how i play.

The Terminator:

John Connor's war buddy goes back in time to save his mother and impregnate her with him, making the most retarded time travel logic in the history of film.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

Taken - 8.5/10

2008/2009 (United States just got it released today in cinemas) action flick starring Liam Neeson as a guy trying to get back his daughter after she was kidnapped. Once you get through the first 25 minutes of the film (pretty much, you should start watching after the daughter gets kidnapped and Neeson tells the guy over the phone that they're royally boned), then it's blissfully awesome from there on out. The rest of the characters you don't give a damn about because they look like they're not even trying, but Neeson pulls in an awesome performance. Sure, we've seen this kind of movie sprinkled throughout the 80's, but me being a fan of the "big and dumb" action movie, I wouldn't have it any other way. For you people in the States that are action fans, check it out, it's the first good flick i've seen in 2009.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford(2007)

A beautiful and haunting tale of the last days of Jesse James life. First off, let me state, this film is extremely low on action. Don't go into it expecting exciting bank and train robberies because they're none existant. It's very much about divulging into the pysche of the two men and it's brilliantly done. Brad Pitt's brutal, tortured performance as Jesse James is one of his best, but he is notibly outshone by Casey Affleck's eerie portrayal of Robert Ford. You're alliances will constantly be tested throughout the film, as it blurs the lines of cowardice.
Another thing to note, is just how beautiful the cinematograpy and art style is. Stand out scene's include the suicide coversation on the ice and Charley and Bob's conversation in the wheatfield. The music is also incredibly touching and supports the tale well.
it is intelligently told and beautifully shot. The best film of 2007.
