Pineapple Express (Green; 2008) - 9/10

Another in the long, awesome line of Judd Apatow produced flicks. Obviously, most of you already know who is in it and what the plot is. This is the first time I watched it since I first saw it a few months eariler. First go around, I thought it was funny but not the classic like I anticipated. But like with most Apatow movies, it's a grower and you need to watch it a few times to fully love it for what it's worth (also helps if you have people watching it with you). Now, it's probably one of the best comedies of 2008. Props also go to the main cast of the movie, especially James Franco, who pumped out one of the best movie stoner characters, probably ever. So, if you haven't yet, you need to see this. It's a good time by all and another home run for the Apatow Gang.

Mondays Movie

The Maltese Falcon - **** (9/10)
- 1941 film noir starring Humphrey Bogart and directed by John Huston. This is considered by a lot of critics as the first official film noir (although i would prefer to think that M is the first one), and my grandmother got it for me on DVD during christmas and i am just now getting around to it. It was pretty great, did exactly what i expected out of a great film noir. A decent story, but its the characters that make it, and the nit n' grit style, with the tough as shit dialogue, and the characters you would be nervous to meet in a dark alley. Great tone, great writing, overall awesome movie.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop- a film about an underachieving mall cop, and how he must save his mall when a bunch of crooks take over. Starring Kevin James (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), Jayma Mays (Epic Movie), and Keir O'Donnell (Wedding Crashers). I highly enjoyed this film, and felt it was a great comedy. Lots of funny moments, and Kevin James succeeds at bringing them. Sure its a stupid movie that's not being serious. But it excels at what it was meant to do, and that's make people laugh.

Tuesdays Movies

The Family That Preys - ** (4/10)
- 2008 drama starring Sanaa Lathan, Cole Hauser, and Kathy Bates, and directed by Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry, i feel, is a very weak director who gets stuck in weak clichees and one-dimensional characters. It is predictable, generally dull, and very made-for-TV style. Everyone delivers their performances just fine, it is just the writing and directing is pretty bad.

Notorious - *** (7/10)
- 2009 biopic on the Notorious B.I.G., based around his rise to fame, and his struggle to keep things civil in the East Coast vs. West Coast war. It was pretty interesting, considering i know nothing about any of these guys, except who they are and what happened to them. Pretty big list of characters, Biggie, Puffy, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, Lil Cease, and even Pac. Jamal Woolard is EXCELLENT as Biggie, gets down the voice perfectly. My main problem with the movie is it sticks to a lot of the facts, but doesnt flesh out the story and really work on the emotional heartstrings. This is a movie that deserved to be an over 2 hour epic. However, this was still a good movie.

Breathless - ***1/2 (8/10)
- 1960 French film noir starring people you won't know so i wont bother looking up their weird names. This is considered a classic by a lot of people, it is on Eberts great movies, and i found it to be a very interesting movie. I liked it, then i didnt, then i did, then i didnt, but by the time it was over, i really liked it. It centers around two pretty vain people, one of them just wants to be like Humphrey Bogart, one of them kinda just wants to live in their own little cutesy world and is very indecisive and unsure about her relationship with the other main character. It is quite interesting to watch, there will be quite a few who will find it boring but if you enjoy film noirs, it is recommended for you.

Doubt- a film about conflicts that arise, when it is alleged that a priest indecently touched an African American boy. Starring Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia!), Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson's War), and Amy Adams (Enchanted). I must say this film was brilliant. Acting is top notch by pretty much everyone. A very interesting story that is filled with "doubt" even towards the end. The background music was great, and fit well while the story progressed. Definitely an Oscar contender.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist- a film about two teenager's and how they fall in love with each other, after an adventurous night together. Starring Michael Cera (Juno), Kat Dennings (The House Bunny), and Alexis Dziena (Fools Gold). I could not really get into this film. I felt it was a pretty bad tale of a teenage love story. Found the whole chasing the indie band thing kinda dumb. It is nice that this film i all New York, but it doesn't do anything for me.

Troll (1986) Troll 2 (1990)

Trolls take over an apartment building. - Trolls inhabit a small town and try and turn the vacationing family into trees of some kind lol.

I fondly remember these classically bad movies from years ago and decided to pick up the Double feature. Now Troll 1 is absolute garbage, ridiculous storyline, abysmal acting, and overall just boring. Troll 2 on the other hand while featuring probably the absolute worst acting ever seen and being so over the top stupid is incredibly enjoyable to this day. If you want to watch a movie with some friends (preferably inebriated ) check out Troll 2 out and let the fun commence.

NILBOG IS GOBLIN SPELLED BACKWARDS~!

Troll 1 1/10

Troll 2 6/10

The Reader- a film about a law student, who has found out that the women he loved 10 years prior is now on trial for murders during the Holocaust. Starring David Kross, Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), and Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess). Excellent acting by Winslet, and I am glad she won the Golden Globe. There is a great portrayal of love and sexuality between the title characters for the first 40 minutes or so. But it does pick up, and is still quite remarkable. Great performances all around, with a very intriguing story.

Underworld - The Rise of the Lycans

The final installment of the Underworld series, this acts as a prequel to the 2003 movie Underworld and it's followup Underworld: Evolution. Unlike the first two, this is set 1000 years ago, at the time when the blood feud between Vampires and Lycans began. Staring the awsome Bill Nighy, the smoking hot Rhona Mitra and Michael Sheen. This is definatly a film for fans of the series, and it's full worth would be lost on first time comers to Underworld. A true tale of Romeo and Juliet, only 1000 years ago and involving creatures of the night.

9/10 for Underworld fans

7/10
for the rest.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) is a musician for a hit cable crime show, and he also happens to date the star of the show, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). But his life is turned upside down when Sarah dumps him after a five year relationship. Peter turns to his step brother Brian (Bill Hader) for advice. He suggests he goes on a vaction, Peter decides to go to Hawaii. But in an ironic twist Sarah and her new boyfriend, hit singer Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) are at the same hotel. Peter now divides his time between trying to forget about Sarah, and trying to hook up with the receptionist at the hotel, Rachel (Mila Kunis).
Overall this is your usual Judd Apatow movie, alot of dirty jokes and the usual cast of people including Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill. Some pretty funny moments, but nothing really stands out in this film to distinguish it from other apatow films. Overall the movie is ok, not bad, not great, but worth the viewing.

Rating: 6.5/10
