Marley and Me- a film about a couple who prepare for a life together while having an energetic and wild dog. Starring Owen Wilson (Drillbit Taylor), Jennifer Aniston (The Break-Up), and Eric Dane (Open Water 2: Adrift). A pretty good warm and fuzzy film. It has a slow start, but makes up for it as it progresses. Its a good movie to wrap up 2008.

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie

This was a very good Zombie flick until the absurd ending. Through the whole movie your following these two characters who get caught up in some murder. The murder was of course done by the dead which rise in this movie thanks to some supersonic waves that only effect the simplest forms of life. It was developed to have insects kill eachother to save crops, but it started effecting babies and the recently dead. I thought it was a very good way of the dead rising that I haven't thought of before. The movie was going well until the two last scenes where characters simply just get to places that they weren't even capable of getting to starting with the male lead killing a zombie on a stair set and then saving the female lead in a room upstairs. Of course he lit the zombie on fire and would have been unable to go upstairs, but the next scene shows him saving the girl only to find out she was already infected. The other scene was right after that where the Police Sargent goes to a hotel after killing the male lead. The male lead was shot in the hospital where people were surrounding the whole building. So it was simply impossible for him to be in the Sargent's hotel room. Yeah, absurd. This was the second good zombie film I watched recently with a really stupid ending. How hard is it to make an ending that just makes sense?

Blue Velvet (1986)
Story: A man returns to his home town after being away and discovers a severed human ear in a field. Not satisfied with the police's pace, he and the police detective's daughter carry out their own investigation. The object of his investigation turns out to be a beautiful and mysterious woman involved with a violent and perversely evil man.

Review: This is what I call a beautiful, brutal, intense, psychosexual crime thriller. This isn't like David Lynch's other films such as Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive or Inland Empire where it has a completely unconventional storytelling as this is pretty straightforward but behind that, the pacing is so much different than any other conventional film. The thing I love about Lynch's films is that you can take away many different meanings of the films away. He is a true artist as he leaves the interpretation up to the viewer and he doesn't walk us through it. I love the way he showed small towns, as I live in one, and that behind the happy, friendly facade, there's something dark underneath it.

Rating: **** (8/10)

Annie Hall (1977)
Story: After breaking up with his girlfriend Annie Hall, neurotic comedian Alvy Singer goes on a stream of conciousness journey through his memories of their relationship, trying to find out what caused them to part ways.

Review: Probably the best romantic comedy that I have seen as I am not a fan of those types of films but this really wowed me. I love Woody Allen's delivery and the fact that he's willing to break the rules of storytelling by directly speaking to the viewer, rewinding back and creating theater scenes or animation to show a point. Neurotic characters have always been an interest of mine since I know many neurotic people and I might be one myself. I think.

Rating: **** 1/4 (8.5/10)

Tuesdays Movies

Alien Resurrection - **1/2 (6/10)
- 1997 sci-fi movie that is the fourth edition of the famous Alien series. It is entertaining, and generally fun to watch, but the problem is it is just too sloppily made, and doesnt carry over enough during its running time. The story could have been handled much better, its too bad.

The Coffin - *1/2 (3/10)
- 2009 asian horror movie. i was pumped to see this because the guy from the Thai version of Shutter is in this, but this wasnt even close to that. It was horrible. The story is totally weak, the acting is generally bad, and the last 20 minutes of this movie is laughable and delves into the cheesiest shit ever.

Austin Powers in The Spy Who Shagged Me
Story-Dr Evil travels back to 1969 to steal Austin's Mojo hoping that it will allow Him to finally beat Austin and destroy the world.

Acting- Myers is great, Mini-Me is awesome and Heather Graham is super hot.

Overall. The beginning of the movie totally ruins the first, not in a seqaul worse then the orignal kinda way but what happened in the beginning ruinded the first. With that said this is still a very funny movie. 8.5/10.

Wednesdays Movie

Frost Nixon - ***1/2 (8/10)
- 2008 drama on the famous interview between the President and the popular European talk show host. Frank Langella played Nixon, Sheen played Frost, directed by Ron Howard, with supporting performances by Kevin Bacon and Sam Rockwell. The performances are very powerful here, and it gets pretty intense towards the last interview, with solid buildup for the first 90 minutes.

I really liked Frost/Nixon. It was definitely one of my top films of 2008. That final interview was spectacular and was done well. I got chills down my spine when Langella was like "If the President does it then its legal!"

Repo! The Genetic Opera- a film about a time where a company called Geneco donates organs for a price. And those who cannot pay it, are "de-organed" by a killer known as Repoman. Starring Alexa Vega (Sleepover), Paul Sorvino (Romeo + Juliet), and Paris Hilton (The Hottie and the Nottie). I normally aren't a fan of musicals so I could care less for all the songs in the film. The story is original at least and hasn't been redone by a million horror films. Its decent, although I must admit it was visually great and has a good plot.

Thursday Movies

21 Grams - **** (9/10)
- 2004 drama starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, and the always-fantastic Benecio Del Toro. It is basically one of those jump-around movies, that goes in and out of sync, and jumps from character to character and switches timeframes, and if you dont hate these movies, then you'll love it. It is extremely well-written, very powerful, all with very sympathetic characters. It is rare you'll find something so deeply moving, and id say Benecio turned in one of the best performances in his career, but he does it every time so it's not even worth nothing so much.

The General - **** (9/10)
- 1927 comedy classic starring one of the most legendary faces of comedy, Buster Keaton. He is a true genius of comedy, and his physical humor is splendid. This is a really great movie, revolving around a train chase as he tries to rescue his love from some soldiers from the Northern army. The stunts are pretty great, and the humor is constant, just an excellent film with wise pacing.

Fridays Movie

Repo! The Genetic Opera [re-watch] - ** (5/10)
- a 2008 musical directed by a man who graduated from my current school, Darren Lynn Bousman. Sadly, he is currently our most popular name, while i feel thats a pretty sad statement to say. First time i watched this was in our auditorium, where he screened it for us and did a Q & A, and i was too wrapped up in just the whole process to really analyze the film. All in all, he missed a great opportunity here. The music is too weak, he had a glimmer of comedy in the brothers but we dont see them enough, and surprisingly, the visuals are pretty weak. After about a half hour you've already seen it all and it has nothing new to offer you. Terrence Zdunich is a MASTER in this film, deserving of all the credit of entertaining me as the graverobber, he has some fantastic work in this movie and delivers the best song of the film ("Surgery"). Other than that, the great likes of Sarah Brightman and Anthony Stewart Head go by with no interest whatsoever.
