Kung fu Panda (2008)

A Panda is surprisingly chosen as the new Dragon warrior to combat the evil Tai Lung who has escaped prison and is seeking revenge.

Really liked this movie. Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman do great jobs as the voices of the panda and his master. The characters are all very likable and the story flows nicely. The cgi is downright brilliant, it really looks great, especially the fight scenes. Some very funny scenes as well that I think even adults will enjoy. One of the most enjoyable aspects, for me at least, was that they didn't have to rely on stupid toilet humor or pop culture references like a lot of these kids movies do which was a nice surprise. Overall a great movie for the entire family. Nice job Dreamworks.

8/10

The Love Guru- a film where Guru Pitka tries to get a hockey player with his girlfriend, in order to win the Stanley Cup. Starring Mike Myers (Shrek the Third), Jessica Alba (The Eye), and Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog). Goes without say, this is one of Mike Myers worst films. The majority of the movie is toilet humor and an endless supply of penis jokes. One or two moments where I actually laughed, but that can't save the film.

You Only Live Twice- in this film James Bond is in Japan, and tries to find out whats behind a space shuttle that is causing trouble. The film stars the legend known as Sean Connery. I think this film is great stuff, when Connery is Bond, it feels right. I liked this one because it took place in Japan and was interesting with the whole space story. Interesting to know that some of the bits were written by Roald Dahl (mastermind behind Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory). Check this film out.

Dark City (1998)

A man awakens with no recollection of who he is or where he comes from. The world surrounding him is an always dark and mysterious place where everyone "stops" at the strike of 12 besides him.

Directed by Alex Proyas (The Crow) and featuring a great cast, Rufus Sewell (Only real drawback), Jennifer Connoly, William Hurt and Keifer Sutherland. Dark city is a what the Matrix wishes it could be. Not to knock that film in any way because I did love the first one, but DC executes the concept of reality and perception brilliantly and without the need for flashy fight scenes or an overabundance of pseudo-philosophy that plagues the Matrix movies. Now this is about the most overlooked movie I can think of, the dark Noir visual style is incredible, and the effects especially for the time are really mind blowing. "The Strangers" who play the part of the bad guys are awesomely creepy and effective as well. If you're a fan of The Matrix you MUST watch this film.

Wall-E- a film about a lonely robot who goes to space, and has adventures there. The eighth film by Pixar. I've got to say this film is good, it doesn't disappoint with a lovable main character. I would however, not give this film a A like a lot of people have been saying. Its a good film, but some of Pixar's previous films top this one, in my opinion. Still worth the check, its for the entire family.

Hancock- a film about a lazy and unappreciated superhero, who tries to change his public image by helping others. Starring Will Smith (I Am Legend), Charlize Theron (In the Valley of Elah), and Jason Bateman (Juno). I was surprised that this film was actually quite good. A nice performance by Will Smith, and Charlize looked mighty fine in the film. Its different from your everyday superhero films, because Hancock is very unlikely to be considered a regular hero. Good film, if you are a Smith fan watch it.

7/10

Sixteen Candles- a film about a girl who has a terrible and unforgettable 16th birthday. Starring Molly Ringwald (Pretty in Pink), Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club), and John Cusack (Martian Child). A film by a well known director, John Hughes. I think this is well done, and teenagers would love this film. Sure it may be more popular with the girls, I still think this film was a great watch.

Hancock
I have never been so pissed off at movie reviewers over a movie. All I heard was how awful this movie was. Many were saying Smith is a Scientologist, and crazy just to put the movie down.

This movie is about a swearing, drunk hero. It is different then all the stupid overdone repeats of super hero movies. Oooh lets have The Hulk again after we just made one. Lets overhype a another Batman movie just because someone tragically died, even though we all know it will suck compared to the original.

This is a funny movie. It starts off crazy, and stupid funny. It grows into a plot, and sad/wacky storyline. It has its share of surprises. This movie isn't like anything you have seen before. Screw the movie reviewers, and the ones that are going to give the new Batman 5 stars, and this 2.

Rope

Two men kill a man in their apartment simply for excitement of doing it. As icing on the cake, they throw a party in the apartment just minutes after the murder, inviting the victim's father, aunt, fiancee, and best friend (and former love interest of the victim's fiancee). The murderers' former teacher is invited to the party as well, and he begins to suspect something is seriously wrong. The main discussions of the party are about the disturbing absence of the victim, but little do the guests know, they are eating food off of the chest that contains his body.

This is one of Alfred Hitchcock's classics. His best film "Rear Window" was great despite the chlostrophobic nature of the filme (the entire thing takes place from POV of the main character's room) Rope takes this to another level as this entire film (based off of a stage play) is set in the same room and in real time, essentially making the movie just one long continuous scene. However, the film is very interesting for the method of the storytelling and how brilliantly Hitchcock is able to play with the audience in certain parts of the film. It's great to watch the teacher (played by one of my old favorites James Stewart) piece everything together and slowly solve the crime. This is definately one of my favorite movies, and one I highly recommend.

Story- In 1944 the Nazi's are desparate for a way to end the war, They send A mystic who grants eternal life to his girlfriend so if this all goes wrong she can resurect him, and a assian who's sorta immortal himself it seems, to use a Innerdemisional weopen to bring the end of the world> america stops it and the mystic dies, Hellboy is found by the U.S. and used to fight evil,60 years later the Mystic ressurected and tries to being the end of the world again

Acting- it was pretty good, Hellboy is funny and everybody played their parts well for the most part

Overall- with Hellboy 2 coming out i wanted to watch this, it's a good movie 8/10

Superman Returns

Story- After searching for his home planet of Kryton for 5 years Supernamn returns to find out that Lex Luther is planning something that could kill billions of people.

Acting- i thought Superman was great Louis was good also and Lex was awesome, but the kid was unneeded

Overall- I thought this was a great movie, sure the idea is kinda out there and not a ton of action but it was a very good movie 9/10
