Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

In Bruges (2008)

After a botched job involving the death of an innocent person, 2 hitmen are sent on vacation to Belgium.

This is a really great movie. A character study all the way featuring some incredible writing, witty and often hilarious dialogue, and 2 great performances by Colin Ferrel and Brendan Gleeson (gangs of new york). So many fantastic scenes including Colin judo chopping a racist coked out (at the time) midget LMAO. But Don't mistake this for a full blown comedy, (more of a Dark comedy really) because at the core of this film is the inner-struggle and torment that Ferrel's character goes through. Very expertly done I might add. Colin's best performances in quite a while. The best movie I've seen so far this year.

9/10

Diary of the Dead

Absolutely loved it. With the exception of one little scene towards the end I thought the movie was absolutely perfect and couldn't be improved. Not gonna harp on that one scene though.

8.5 out of 10

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

^ I enjoyed it to. Hard for me not to enjoy a zombie movie really, but what makes Romero's stand out is that along with all the great zombie gruesomeness lies a message about society as a whole. It felt really forced at times in Diary but I don't think it hurt the movie much.

I don't think the social commentary hurt the movie in the slightest. You know what you're going to get with Romero and some people don't even notice what he's trying to say. He's never been blatant with it but it's there if you wanna find it.

Kop 4/10 - Watched this the other night and it was rather disappointing.

Scarface 6/10 - Overrated. The first half is excellent and the second half is absolute shite with the last 5 minutes being the only interesting part.

I agree totally. Romero's movies have always painted a larger picture than they already are you just have it more up front with this movie but not too up front if that makes sense.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

I guess im in a minority on Diary of the Dead. I didnt like it (As by my review of it). I found the characters to be extremely whiny amd really annoying. Another thing that iritated me was (For those of you who dont like spoilers, discontinue reading), When the one girl shot herself in the field, why, when she died, did she begin to turn into a Zombie. She wasn't biten or scratched, and that has always been a requirment for turning into a zombie in every zombie movie that pretty much has ever existed. So usually, i big fan of Zombie movies and Romero's work in general, but i didnt care for this one.

Dan Halen Quote of the Week
"Look, if corn and kudzu fall in love and have a baby, in a lab under the supervision of scientists working in my employ, Who am i to stop that, other than the CEO responsible for stopping it?"

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

I hear ya Boogey Man, but there's no reason to make this zombie movie follow all rules set forth by zombie movies that came before it.

Spoiler

She wasn't the only one that turned into a zombie like that. The brother who had a heart condition also turned like that. So did the first two zombies it showed in the movie. It never really explained why this was happening so there's really no rules to go by.

Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw

It's a myth really that you HAVE to be bitten or even come into contact with a zombie to become one (at least Romero's movies), usually all you have to do is die.

If you remember Night of the Living Dead, the news reports say something like "Now anyone who dies will become a zombie" And of course everyone remembers the original Dawn of the Dead Tagline:
"When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth" Always loved that
