Today's issue of the Melbourne Sunday Herald-Sun (Sept 23) carries a brief interview with Michael Caine talking about Heath Ledger's performance in THE DARK KNIGHT.

Here's some of what Caine had to say:

Quote:
"The worry going in was The Joker.

Jack Nicholson was the greatest Joker so, you know, how do you top that? Well, Heath Ledger's done it and he's extraordinary.

He's gone in a completely different direction to Jack. Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh.

Heath is like a really scary psychopath. I did one scene with him and he was ready to go and had to come up in a lift and raid our place.

I didn't see him for rehearsal and when he came out of the lift he was so incredible I forgot my lines. He frightened the life out of me.

I'd never met him before. He's a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture."

Beatrice Rosen (Peaceful Warrior) and Joshua Harto (The Believer) have joined the cast of Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Rosen's credits include Chasing Liberty and "Cuts." Harto's guested on such shows as "Veronica Mars" and "Without a Trace."

The silver screen continues to figure big in the marketing of sweets, and among the flavor fits unveiled during last week’s All Candy Expo was Hershey’s hook up with Warner Bros.’ next installment of the Batman series The Dark Knight coming to theaters next July. The Reese’s line will include bat-shaped chocolate and peanut butter pieces, and Kit Kat wafers bars will be stamped with the bat signal.

Wrappers and displays for both brands will flag an instant win sweepstakes for Bat Cave prizes like Batman-themed Ducati motorcycle, media center wall, replica movie props and downloadable posters.

Death On Batman Set

A crew member on the new BATMAN movie has been killed in an onset accident.

The special effects expert was following the Batmobile on a racetrack in Surrey, England when the car he was in crashed into a tree.

It is believed the dead man was trying to figure out how to film a car chase scene.

The unnamed victim, a married father of two, died at the scene of the crash. Police and the Health and Safety experts are investigating the incident.

None of the film's cast including Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Heath Ledger saw the accident. Batman: The Dark Knight is released next year (08).

‘The Dark Knight’ Themed Roller Coaster Coming To Three Six Flags Theme Parks In 2008

New York -- Six Flags announced today that it will open a new indoor, themed roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie The Dark Knight featuring DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker at three of its theme parks next year.

The new attraction named “The Dark Knight Coaster” will open at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL and Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA in May 2008. Each installation will cost an estimated $7.5 million.

"Today's announcement represents Six Flags Great America's continued focus on delivering a well-rounded and balanced entertainment package," said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America's Park President.

The Dark Knight Coaster according to Six Flags will transform guests into citizens of Gotham City - caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.

"The Dark Knight Coaster offers a unique experience that will appeal to families and teens alike," added Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure's Park President.

Onboard The Dark Knight Coaster, guests will experience the ride of their lives.

Six Flags says the excitement begins as guests venture through demented hallways of twists, turns and hallucinatory images, while they are tormented by The Joker himself. Then as they set foot onto a distressed, vandalized train platform, they can only guess at what awaits them as they speed through six 180-degree hairpin turns, climb unseen hills, plunge into pitch darkness and dip into unforeseen danger. And of course, in the midst of all this chaos it’ll be up to Batman himself to save you.

"The opening of The Dark Knight Coaster will be perfectly-timed to coincide with the debut of the next Batman film from director Christopher Nolan. We're very excited that fans will be able to have a first-hand experience with the sites, sounds and thrills of crime fighting in Gotham City," said Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products.

Six Flags says The Dark Knight Coaster’s will use storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride experience.

“At a cost of $7.5 million, The Dark Knight will be the first indoor roller coaster at Six Flags New England,” said Larry Litton, Six Flags New England's Park President.

The plans is to locate this new roller coaster in the Orleans Place at Six Flags Great America, the DC section at Six Flags New England and Movietown at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Planning and initial prepartion for the construction of The Dark Knight Coaster is already underway at all three Six Flags parks.

Warner Bros. The Dark Knight movie opens July 18, 2008 at theatres nationwide.

MTV sat down with Sir Michael Caine and got him to talk a bit about THE DARK KNIGHT.

Yet again, Caine gives major props to Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. "I’ll tell you who it’s about. It’s about Heath Ledger as The Joker," say Caine. "He will be the talking point of the next Batman."

Sir Michael added that Heath's Joker is "...one of the scariest performances I’ve ever seen." Wow. That's coming from someone who has been in this business for years.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, every person I've talked to that has seen Heath do his Joker thing has been absolutely blown away.

The following line from Sir Michael that comes via THEMONEYTIMES.COM:
"I was waiting for Batman's guests, but (The Joker) had taken over the elevator with -- he has seven dwarfs and... oh! wait until you see them. So, I'd never seen any of it and the elevator door opened and they came out and I forgot every bloody line. They frightened the bloody life out of me .... It's amazing and it's so different from Jack."

Three years ago, it was about at this point in the production of BATMAN BEGINS that rumors about the sequel started making the rounds. Looks like that's the case again, so be looking out for a "TDK Sequel" rumors report coming soon. Meow!

I loved batman returns, not sure if im alone on that...so im kinda skeptical with continuing the series with catwoman, and maybe later on with the penguin, but as long as the direction of the series continues to be top notch, I cant wait.

Every person interviewed says theyve been blown away by the joker, its definitely gonna be the talk of the movie. This film will be sold by the joker character and I truly hope this is an amazing performance as eveyrone claims, the character alone deserves some recognition...I cant wait to see this side of Ledger, just awesome
whoo hoo

I liked BR too but I like Nolans better. Also Nolan has stated that Penguin wont be in this franchise.

De Vito was the perfect Penguin as was Riddler by Jim Carrey but they should have been in Nolans franchise. He understands the world better IMO and is trying to keep it as realistic as you can having a vigilante dressed as a bat which is why Penguin isnt in this franchise.

Burton and DeVito turned Penguin into a grotesque compliment to the Batman/Bruce Wayne Burton created in the first

i absolutely can't wait to see Heath Ledger as the Joker. i recently re-read The Killing Joke and even tho i know that isn't the same Joker they are going for, it's still one of my favorite Batman stories and premises. Gordon completely going insane is one of the most intrigueing things i've seen done in the DC Universe and one of the more interesting sides the Joker has ever shown.

but to be honest, my favorite Joker is the catatonic Joker from Dark Knight Returns...just waiting for Batman to return

i have really high hopes for Ledger's Joker. he really won me over ever since i saw him in Brokeback Mountain.

yeah, I even liked the tommy lee casting as two face...not the greatest choice, but definitely not bad. If all those burton films would have been at least decent, everything would have been fine. The castings were almost perfect always, it just needed someone who understood the batman world a little bit more.
