Toradora is one of my (if not the) favourite non-mainstream animes. Clannad deserves a shout too.
The "Nerdy, massochist" male lead on animes is getting so repetitive, for example Saito from Zero No Tsukaima, and Keitaro from Love Hina. Cool characters like Ryuji, Okazaki are much more entertaining than the generic 'beaten up by women' guy.
Zero No Tsukaima had great moments that saved this kind of thing though. Saito's 'death' was one my favourite anime moments of all time, I must say.
And you wanna talk Ecchi?
..Watch Ladies vs Butlers. I never expected it being so..yeah.
Hagure No Estica is good, most of those Mcs you mention should learn from the MC in that anime and I have watched that too.
Can't really take anyone's suggestions for Anime in this Forum, taste seems to be terribly skewed toward popular opinion instead of actual content. Bleach releases have been better than Naruto's for some time now.
If that's the "popular opinion" then I'm an anomaly. I don't care for either.

[This is where I'd put one of my drawings I worked hard on in my sig, but since I'd have to spring five bucks to do so, I'll just put me photobucket link here.]
