It can be a little confusing, with the way the series constantly switches time lines, but closer to the end, all the seemingly separate stories will begin to mesh together and make sense.

All the characters (well, except one villain, and you'll know who, and perhaps Jacuzzi at first, who can be a but irritating) are fun to watch and likable, albeit most are on the outright insane side of things.

Definitely a series to give a shot.
I can attest to this. Baccano is definitely a fun little series. I, for one, prefer it over Durarara.

As much as I enjoyed Baccano, I enjoyed Durarara! more. I enjoyed allot of Durarara!'s cast more, particularly characters like Shizuo, Simon, and the two nut cases always hanging around Kyohei Kadota, Walker and Erika. I'll admit, the time warping in Baccano is a slight factor in my preference, I honestly did have a bit of an issue keeping up until 5-6 episodes in.

But for both series... Why in the hell nobody translated and sold the novels in English is beyond me. More proof TokyoPop shouldn't have bailed on us.

I'm on a bit of a Kinnikuman high right now (as if you couldn't tell by the sig). Wondering if anyone has heard of it. Found a fan sub project, since no official sub or dub exists, and they already done 40 episodes and are still working on it. Reading the Manga now and boy is it bloody. They toned it down for the anime, which kinda sucks cause I was looking forward to seeing the camel clutch rip someone in half.

That's understandable but I had more fun with the characters in Baccano. Isaac and Miria were pretty damn funny to watch. Nice and Ennis were the two female characters that I connect with. But anyways both Durarara and Baccano were good series, I can see that one person prefer the one series over the other.

Sakaki Makio, also known as "Tornado" is a tough 27-year-old high school drop-out. By academic standards, he's pretty dumb. His father decides to force Makio to return to high school to receive his diploma and he asks an old friend who happens to be the principal of a nearby school to admit Makio. If Makio doesn't graduate, the position of boss will be given to his younger brother, Mikio.

Furthermore, he must pose as a 17-year-old during school hours and in the presence of any classmates or teachers outside of school. If his cover is blown, it would be the end of his high school career as well as his hopes to become boss. Things start out rough and tough as Makio's violent temper is tested. As the lessons and days go by he learns there is much more to school than just tests and studying.

But Tokyopop didn't bail, they could not keep sustaining themselves due to the closing of Borders causing bankruptcy. Another thing to mention is that Tokyopop had no big name mangas at the time. Naruto, Bleach and One Piece are all owned by VIZ media. I would love light novels to become more widely published in English. Vampire Hunter D and Shakugan no Shana are the only light novels that I know of that have been translated into English. Manga is still a niche market and light novels would be an even smaller market.

No mention of Ladd Russo? Would love to see Shizuo vs. Ladd.

How could I forget mention Ladd? He is definitely a sick fuck and great antagonist of the series. A really great character.

The only one I know of that even comes close is probably Record of Lodoss War series, which is more fantasy in the sense of shining force (id say dungeons n dragons, but I really dunno much about DnD) than medieval.

There's also the Slayers, but again, more magic fantasy than what you may be looking for.

7 I'm not big on. I tried it a couple times, but it just doesn't grab me. I honestly can't say what puts me off about the series.

Casshern is pretty good, probably one of the more philosophical anime i seen recently, just wish it was a bit more action packed.
