The closest i can think of off of the top of my hat as far as tone (not story) would be Code Geass, it's almost as dark as Death Note, might be a bit darker. And good news on the new Anime line up on Toonami 2.0, i was enjoying Durarara's second run myself, but if it's being off the air means more Anime being added i'm ok with it.

Code Geass is the right answer. It's better than Death Note too imo.
Also, MONSTER if the GOAT, but it's not exactly intended for the same audience as the other two.

Was looking for something new to watch on Netflix and decided to check out Chobits since a friend of mine talked about it a few years ago....um....yeah, what a strange one that is.
Perhaps I'll check out Casshern Sins.
