If so, I watched the live action of the movie on youtube. 1 and 2, the movie kind of gave me a bad vibe for some reason. Watched them a while back so I don't remember exactly how they went down. Yea that's battle royale, not a nice premise I'll give you that. Scary thought but damn good manga and damn good movie(the first one)
I heard Gantz is better in the manga, but yeah if it isn't that good then I would avoid reading the manga as well. I certainly can't see it being as good as Akira or Battle Angel Alita.
Well, starting watching Spice and Wolf season 2 again. Stopped watching because of I playing so much of Mass Effect that it got in the way of my anime watching. And Horo or Holo is still the best thing about the series. Seriously, she's becoming one of my favorite female characters in general.
What I would say about Gantz is give all it's incarnations a try and see what you prefer. For me the manga started off great and went on far too long I gave up. It makes an anime adaptation that has a limited amount of episodes impossible to translate. The movies are entertaining but of course it doesn't have everything the source material has (I hate when people complain about that, how could it possibly fit everything in) the anime is excellent in its first season but kind of falls away. The good thing is the anime is short (30 something eps I think) Speaking of short anime, one of my favourite is elfen lied which has this reputation of being the most disgusting, distasteful anime in history but although there is a lot of blood and death it has a warmth and a heart to it. It's only 13(i think) episodes and I love it, it's a weird mix of sweet, heartwarming drama and just devastating destruction.

Just absolutely loved it. Fell in love with the characters, was crushed when bad things happened to them, that rarely happens to me with anime. Again I'll go back to how short it is. I cant keep up with anime that goes on for 100s of episodes. The narrative ends up all over the place and just becomes so clustered. Elfen lied is one of the shortest I've seen and it just punches home everything it needs to in that time. Didn;t need any more episodes
On another note, Gurren Laggan is stupid shit. It reminds of whenever somebody is watching some anime spoof on any other non anime show and it's always random screaming and nonsensical violence. In fact, here's a synopsis of Gurren Laggan.

All I saw was senseless brutal slaughter, by a, I think, invisible monster hosted by a girl as far as I can remember. To now just know it was about romance is crazy. lol
