How short of a series and what genres do you like?
How short? Well, let's just say I don't want to have watch 200-300 episodes to fully grasp the story. Let's say 30 episodes for a series.

Genres? Ehhhhh. Not really fussed. Not too out of this world, I guess.

Oh, I just found out there's a second Barefoot Gen. Anyone seen it? I loved the first one.

Its not as good as the first. Its more lighter and hopeful but sad nonetheless. The first one was just devastating, in a good way.

Berserk, Basilisk, Darker than Black (again), and Big O. The first 3 are 24-25 episodes and just watch the first 13 episodes of Big O. The last 13 episodes are a clusterfuck.

Yeah, that's where I'm at, I'm trying to decide if I am going to buy it or not. I, too, am enjoying it so far. Yomi is probably the star of the show imo.

Continue on studio gibli path there my friend. Other movies you would want to see are:

*Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
*Castle in the Sky
*Howls moving castle
*Porco Rosso

Another one is Akira. Watch it in dub.

Now the series:
*Full Metal Alchemist. (Brilliant series.)
*Ergo Proxy (if you are interested in complex plot)
*Wolf's Rain (gosh one of my favorites but not recommended if you don't believe in something beyond this life. Depends really).

Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Fullmetal Alchemist

Those are three solid, fan favourites. Since you are looking for something that isn't very time consuming you are in luck; quite a lot of anime series are 28 or 52 episodes. There are exceptions, of course, but they generally don't run on a seasonal aspect and a lot run year around.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got The Girl Who Leapt Through Time on download. Will watch it somewhen.

I did catch Barefoot Gen II yesterday. Pretty solid movie, apart from the anti-American propaganda brings it down a mark.

Okay so I read the top four anime today: Naruto, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist and Bleach. And watching Naruto only. Any other anime I should check out?

Well AWD, just finished watching 3x3 Eyes 1&2, Darker than Black 1&2, Bastard!!(needed a short series to fill in the gaps of watching 3x3 eyes since I only found it on mega upload), and Black Lagoon 1&2, working on the Black Lagoon OVA, Roberta's Blood Trail, right now and plan on Beserk next.

3x3 eyes was pretty boring I thought, but I enjoyed the premise of the 2nd one's, I enjoy memory loss of all that happens in my shows and thought Bleach would end that way.

Darker than Black was awesome. FMA was not my cup of tea, but for whatever reason, DTB was pretty good. Felt more modernized and interesting than FMA in my opinion. Liked how every one paid a different price. Had a pretty jazzy soundtrack which went well.

Bastard!!, though it wsn't recommended, was okay I thought. Liked the fantastical elements of it, felt very D&D like.

I thought Black lagoon felt like Cowboy Bebop set in modern day, which was pretty cool despite my dislike of Bebop. Liked the character of Rock a lot.

Look at the last couple of pages.

We should get Near to add a recommended anime list to the first post so we can just refer people to it.

Glad you liked DBT and Black Lagoon, Haystacks. Bastard!! looks good and the manga is still ongoing.
Planning on watching all 152 episodes of Fist of the North Star in 3 weeks. I'll start when I finish Ga Rei Zero. But I also want to start watching Cromartie High School.
