I'm a huge fan of Dragonball and Yu Yu Hakusho
I'll analyse the Dragonball series I doubt anybody is going to read it
Dragonball was my favourite part of the three part series. The anime was fresh, funny and with classic anime fighting. The Red Ribbon Army sagas were brilliant imo although a little cheesy. The show was mainly comedy until Tien entered. There on it it became more action oriented and laid the foundation for Dragonball Z. The Goku|King Piccolo fights is one of the best I've seen in the entire series. Everything was scripted to the fullest. Piccolo Jr. Saga reverted back to what Dragonball is all about. A lot of fun and some epic action in between. Chi Chi|Goku battle had to be a favourite of any DB fan. The ending could've been made much better for the show but DBZ more than made up for it
Dragonball Z jumped right into the action with the saiyan saga to give the fans a taste of what the series was all about. Vegeta and Nappa were an amazing combo to be introduced. The Saiyan Saga as a whole is a lot of fun. This was where the gap between the fighting powers started to become a canyon.
The journey to Namek is a lot of fun as well although a bit overdone. Once they get to the real namek, it's nonstop entertainment imo. Throughout the race for the dragonballs to the ginyu force's arrival. My main complaint with the Frieza saga is how dragged out the fight between Goku and Frieza is. Vegeta's character cemented himself as one of the main protagonists in this saga. The Super Saiyan transformation is legendary though
Garlic Jr. while being a filler keeps you entertained although it is my most hated part of the show. It has absolutely nothing to do with the story and most importantly Goku and Vegeta are both absent.
A returning Frieza and King Cold were fed to trunks to make him look strong. This is where I believe the best arc of the entire story takes place. The Android and Cell arc was brilliant. The execution however was sloppy. The android saga, imperfect cell saga and the perfect cell saga were all brilliantly done. Cell games, while being a good concept was way too overdone and hence lost interest there. Gohan stepping up was again another huge part of the rest of the story. Vegeta was made to look even more pathetic, which is why he's such a fan favourite. He's my favourite as well
Goku's journey in the other world is my favourite part of the entire series. Corny? Yes but it's still awesome. Saiyaman saga takes a different direction in the DBZ world, where you'll see the life of regulars living in their world. This doesn't last long with the world tournament coming in. This was a world tournament that had a lot of potential but they milked out even more from it. While the tournament itself was made a joke out of. The babidi and buu sagas are plenty great. Fusion and Kid Buu sagas revert back to what Cell Games was all about. I'm not a fan of it but it seems to go well with the demographic. The ending was good with Uub and kept you wanting more. They should've kept it that way
DBGT was a disgrace. The baby saga is worth watching once if you're a huge fan and will keep you entertained. The lost episodes, Super 17 and shadow dragon sagas are watchable at best. They dragged the series down infinitely imo
As for Yu Yu Hakusho
The beginning of the story leads you to believe that it's everything it's not. It changes and I for one am glad it did. Romance is effective and you can see it in here but the action overtakes it, which is why it's an anime and not a movie (or shonen over shoujen)
The spirit detective sagas feature some good arcs. The introduction of Kurama and Hiei are done very well. The genkai tournament and Maze castle are both some good arcs too, which are mostly there to fill space and create a sense of story before heading into the biggest angle of the show. Tugoros are introduced in the S.D saga and the story is finished there itself
However it's brought back in the dark tournament saga mainly because without them there's no dark tournament saga. The fights and the story behind each fight is explored in a great way. Very reminiscent of Flame of Recca but it's done much more masterfully with a much better story and a bigger budget. Genkai's involvement in the season could've been masked better (no pun intended) but it was still effective to see grandma in her fighting shoes. The fight between Tugoro and Yusuke is the third best fight in the series, first being Hiei vs. Bui and the second being Sensui vs. Yusuke. Hiei and Bui, two character resembling each other a lot are very relatable minus the superpowers. One of the best sagas/seasons OR story arc I've even seen in any anime. The execution was damn near flawless
The Chapter Black saga is another saga that bounces off very well. The beginning is filled with mystery. There's a lot of emotion and moral value underlying in the story, which made it so much more realistic. You just can't seem to hate Sensui as a characted after having watched the series. Yusuke's transformation into the masoku was done very well and it was great that they ended the fight right then and there. A very good saga. Another great arc executed amazingly well
The saga of the three kings started of very well but ended off in the most disappointing way. Sure it made for a different ending and very un-generic but I was anxious to see what epic battle they could throw in to follow such classics as Sensui|Yusuke and Yusuke|Toguro. We god a fat demon as king of the demon world. Another complaint I have on this is the lack of Kuwabara's involvement in this saga. Of course he had no reason to be in here but I would've liked to see more of him. He's like the anti-Vegeta character and he's essential
Putting aside the small faults in the first and last sagas, this show is breathtaking. The Dark tournament and chapter black sagas are amazing arcs of the show and I would reccomend them to any anime fan
